Spurs v Liverpool 12.00 27.04.02
« on: April 27, 2002, 01:02:31 pm »
First half fairly even with plenty of chances at either end. Murphy featuring for the Reds ( from my standpoint) and Poyet for Spurs.

Xavier exposed slightly at the back and has let too many crosses in from that side for my liking.

1/2 time 1- 0

Barely 2 chances to the Reds in the second half and how we will rue those first half missed chances.

1-0

Title challenge now over I fear.

Indeed - not a good performance, though.

It was the fixture where you thought this might happen.

All the old 'huffing and puffing' and bugger-all composure in the second half, too.

And nonsense with Anelka involved on the final whistle, too.  Concentrate on your end product, Anelka, not this and you might have a future with us - but not at anything like £12m or £60,000 a week.

It is all over - Arsenal can't lose it now.

Second would still be nice, and probably ours if we roll the sleeves up for the remaining two games.

GH still won't concede the title but in reality it must be out of reach.

We are now relying on Arsenal not picking up more than 2 points in their last 2 games (and, with the goal difference, 1) but if Arsenal do not beat Man Utd then I don't think we'll finish above them either.

Reminded me a bit of the Bayer game - had the chances to take the game early on but, with a depleted midfield (minus Hamman v minus Gerrard) eventually got overrun in the middle of the park.

But it raises one question - who did we miss more, the midfielder or Heskey? In both cases the defence had it much easier once he went off...

I think arsenal will want to prove a point at OT, I hope they will put in a big effort and win. That would then be enough to give us second place, although on todays performance we can't really complain if we don't get it.
When it comes down to it, it's the Boltons the Fulhams, the West Hams, those big points we lost at home, they have cost us dear.
I'm a bit sick at the moment, all I can say is-:
YNWA. I love  LIVERPOOL
