One of the best written, sharpest and cleverest comedies for years, perhaps ever.

Agreed, it is absolutely astonishing the good work they do on that show. One of my faves.

The great thing about AD is it's rewatchability. There is so much going on, it's near impossible to get it all in the first viewing. Expecially the last few episodes. They knew they were getting cancelled and threw everything in. Hectic, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Still not seen S3, much to my chagrin.

But as you say, so much going on, so many hidden bits that you only notice on repeated viewing. Genius of a show.

Seen the first season. It's good in parts. Some lovely characters obviously....

Series 3 on BBC 2 now, in case you've not already seen it.

'analrapist'

Just saw what TV3 Ireland called the last ever episode of Arrested Development. I'm a little gutted (be strong, be strong).

This was a good (and funny) sum up of a fucking great show.

Been chuckling about the Analrapist gag since I watcyhed S3 yesterday.

Anyone who owns or has seen the first season noticed too the actress who plays Martha changes?

Brilliant show none the less. The bleeps are irritating though, should've been on HBO. ;D

I think they use the bleeps really well, some very clever stuff done with them.

All three seasons are superb. Just the best minute-for-minute sitcom in years. Amazing stuff.

It's a stylistic thing, innit. Helps to foster the illusion of a fly-on-the-wall docu. I love the way the characters' mouths are always covered when they swear too- very intricate.

And yes, Marta does change...

Love this show, it is amazingly crafted with no filler jokes. Truely amazing that they have done it. 3 things that stick in my mind from when I watched ages ago;

1) The love story between George Michael and his cousin
2) The lawyer "Bob Lublow"
3) And when one of the characters had "Analrapist" on his business card.

Great show - definitely up there with Curb.

Absolutely - my favourite line in the whole thing- with the possible addition of Franklin.

'Well crafted' is spot on though- eg the way Buster's loss of a hand is prefigured by the fairground claw/his hand-shaped chair/his use of the crane to extricate Gob, or the way the seeds of Gob's paternity of STEVE HOLT! is hinted at in previous series.

The subtle jokes like the hands are great. And the fact he got his hand bitten off by loose seal.

Or that Lucille's maid always wears jumpers on special occasions, but they're for other special occassions - a halloween jumper at christmas, etc.

My two favourite little gags both involve Henry Winkler. Once, he jumped over a shark, and another time he was in the bathroom. he looks in the mirror and goes to smooth his hair. Then makes this little move to say the hair is already perfect. Classic Fonz.

Also, the fact that Ron Howard narrates is excellent.

All those years of watching tedious Happy Days episodes as a kid have finally paid off!
Anyone else being strangely drawn to Dion Dublin's nipples?

Some of my favourite moments/themes:

1) the chicken impersonations. Started with Gob but in later episodes each character then began doing one, then they all did them simultaneously. Each radically different and hilarious.

2) Stan Sitwell and his alopecia. Especially the gag about him not being able to buy another convertible car (wig loss factor) and Gob going with Stan's wigmaker to get his dress eyebrows. Gob is later seen with odd looking eyebrows. "Are those Stan Sitwell's?" asks Michael. "They just make me feel... dressier..."

3) "Pop-pop" in the attic. "The fact that you call it that shows you're not ready..."

4) Barry Zuckercorn's total and utter incompetence as a lawyer, and his barely disguised homosexuality

5) The doctor whose announcements are horribly literal. "We've lost him..." - cue distress at the death of George. When in fact George has gone missing.

6) Franklin, the foul-mouthed puppet. Genius.

7) Kitty lifting her top to show her new fake tits. "Say goodbye to these...".

8.) the sad walk all the characters do when they've been dumped...

9) Tobias' cut-offs and the whole 'never-nude' stuff. And his even more obvious homosexuality.

10) Anne. "Her?"

11) Le Cousins Dangereux and the whole inter-cousin longing.

12) Buster and the loose seal - another "Lucille" ruining his life.

13) the police aggression to Oscar, with one policeman always weighing in with a truncheon just as Oscar's been fully restrained.

14) "Girls With Low Self-Esteem" - the best DVD series ever.

15) the Cornballer. Especially the version in Mexico.

16) Tobias' desperate longing to be in the Blue Man group. "I just blue myself" Cue Michael: "You really oughta record what you're saying..."

17) Michael Bluth giving his son a mixture of his name and his father's name. Welcome, George Michael...

18) The boat Gob buys - The Seaword. "We need to get rid of the Seaword." says Michael to Gob. Lucille, overhearing, thinks he's referring to her...

19) Lucille 2's (Liza Minelli) vertigo. Classic visual gags.

20) Uncle Jack's (Martin Short) "Swoop me!" thing. And when Dragan, his helper, shakes him till he vomits. Also this... Jack: "To the nuts! ...The bridge mix! The bridge mix! Fool!"

KRAMER: "I'm at 1st and 1st. Wait a minute, how can a street intersect into itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe!"

Cracking list; I'd add the 'spilt vodka in the kitchen'. - "Does this mean we have to put her in a home?"

Also- Come On!

Three seasons of the best minute-for-minute comedy programme ever.

Sometimes there's too many gags (especially sight gags) going on to notice them all until the third or fourth viewing.

Agree with all the top 20 favourite moments up there, and would include:

* "I've made a huge mistake"

* "The O.C." "Don't call it that"

* "Annyong!"

* Bob Loblaw's Law Blog!

* Absolutely everything David Cross (Tobias) comes out with. In fact, you could start a new thread consisting entirely of Tobias quotes:

"I'm afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I'm afraid I have something of a mess on my hands."

"now you're mocking me. You selfish c.. [sees Maeby] ...ountry-music-loving lady"

"I am the first analytical therapist, or as I call it 'analrapist'"

David Cross' stand up stuff is highly recommended as well.
Thank you Jurgen

Totally agree. I think I didn't even touch upon the third season. Bob Loblaw is the best name ever.

David Cross' stand-up is very edgy, from the clips I've heard. When you have such a talented cast, it helps. Don't think any show has had so many A-grade performers. Some have three or four, but Arrested is just overflowing with great performers who together so brilliantly.
