Because they are the best side we've played this season. They've played us off the park twice.

Well that’s not true. Away in the league, yes. Not the other two games.

We absolutely should have beaten Arsenal at home. We had a 5 v 1 counterattack. I have no idea how we didn't score and close out the game.

Nah, they haven't. Once, against our reserves. Another time lost at home to our reserves after a good 30mins.

So who have been the best team we've played?

No....they haven't, we were far better at Anfield and gifted them a goal at their place.

Also, like City, they have been fortunate to have so few injuries

Klopp said Ibou could be back for United next week. Great news.

Not buying Arsenal as our biggest challenge. They’ll do well to get a point next week and they have some terrible games to come including  City, Spurs and United away as well as Villa and Chelsea home. Alongside CL and a thin squad, I reckon if we beat City we win the league with Arsenal well off it in third

How is this a reserves team?

Allison
Trent
VVD
Konate
Gomez
Mac
Jones
Gravenberch
Jota
Gakpo
Diaz

A few starters missing but far from a reserve team.

The Odegaard handball, the Doku foul today… I’m worried about the prospect of seeing these pictures in a few months after missing out on the title by a point again. Having said that, the result is fine.

Probably Arsenal but doesn’t mean they’ve played us off the park twice. But then again I’m still always more in edge when we play City. We’ve done pretty well against them this season and we’re unlucky not to win today but always feels like they (and us) can score at any moment so those games tend to be a more nervy watch for me.

Agree with Arsenal being the best side we've played this season

Disagree with the "played off the park" comment.

All moot anyway though. I would still expect City to beat them at the Etihad and they are also more likely to bottle certain games in the run-in.

Arsenal will see very little of the ball at the Etihad. They'll be lucky to get a draw there at most.

City and Arsenal have shown just as much that the title is theirs. Coming to a title challenger's home ground and wrestling a draw, is not a result to sniff at.

It's not entirely in our hands anymore.

My God what a performance by the boys, Anfield fucking rocked today.

Every player to a man was outstanding, particularly stand outs to Gomez, Elliott, and Diaz.

The VAR appeal waved away in just 20 seconds, super slow motion shows Mac Allister chested the ball onto Doku's knee, he never eve touched the ball with his foot, cheating fucking bastards.

Have you seen Arsenal's run in? Harder than ours.
Our combined final games opposition is the lowest average points per game of the three of us. Edit, after checking this, Indie shows these as Arsenal 1.63, Cheats 1.62, mighty Reds 1.44.

Did you watch City today? Never can recall a City cede possession like they did.

The game will be a 55-45 split on City's side. Low scoring game like their game earlier this season. One nil either way or 1-1.

City are third now. It's not a good result for them. They didn't gain ground on us and they lost ground on Arsenal.

I never thought I’d say this but I’m more worried about Arsenal than I am about city now. Arsenal look in far better form I don’t think they’ll drop many more points. Draw or City win in their game for me,
I agree. I think the energy they have will cause City problems, where as many don’t seem to give them a chance there.

Still hopeful when all is said and done we’ll be the ones celebrating in May

Enjoy being in the mix, this is Klopps last chance to win the league with Liverpool but we will have another go next year and this team will have had more time to develop.  Liverpool 2.0 is ahead of schedule and watching the young players today the future is bright. It’s a brilliant title race and I have just watched our next manager beat Wolfsburg.

They were scared. They just don't know what to do at Anfield.

Play an expanisve game? They get roasted on the counter.
Defend deep? We boss them anyway and we're more likely to win.

Our young lads will be better as they will be more experienced.  Also, the likes of Szobo would have had a year playing PL football under their belt. There's more to come from this team.

That was a pleasure to witness in the flesh. Proper game of football, one we probably should have won in the end, and we can be very proud once again of what our players produced. They just made the (cheating) treble winners retreat into their bunker for a large period of the match.

I wrote in my preview how important a win was, a draw on reflection still leaves us in a decent position. One or both of Arsenal and Abu Dhabi have to drop points at the end of March.

The penalty shout looked clumsy from my angle in real time but it’s an absolute farce that Oliver wasn’t at least sent to look at it. This bollocks about if it was given VAR wouldn’t overturn it, but wouldn’t overturn it if it was off either. Utter nonsense. Smacks of a referee who didn’t want to give a 90 something minute penalty in a title six pointer and thought he’d rely on VAR instead

I always do.

Just today- I'm not.

Let me have my place in the dark. I always let us feel as dark as they want to be.
I want to be miserable for once.

About what, though? We were excellent. That performance just confirms us as the real deal. Half a team out, against the best cheats in the world, and we took the game to them and should have won. Players missing from the starting line-up included Alisson, Konate, Trent, Robertson, Salah, Matip, Thiago, Jones and Jota. It's incredible how quickly Jurgen has built Liverpool 2.0.

Oh right. Didn’t know that. Never heard that before. Can’t believe it’s not reported more often.

When he was breaking into the first team Liverpool were coming home on their coach and and listening to Everton on the radio. Everton scored and there was a cheer from the back. Ronnie Moran jumps up and shouts who the fuck was that ? It was Carragher and Ronnie goes I think we need to have a word here Jamie lad.

It’s this dismissive attitude I don’t get. They’re currently top of the league. I think we’ll ultimately win it. But being dismissive of this Arsenal team doesn’t make sense. Just because they faded last season doesn’t mean they will again. They look capable of getting at least a draw at City. A draw is the result I want most in that game as it should put things back in our hands

Interesting that the Guardian have put the Doku pic as the title pic of the match report. You don't do that unless you feel it's important. Coming from them and their usual stance on Liverpool, it's a statement.

Don't mention it in the report though.

I noticed they did that, but as you say, it's barely mentioned it in the report, and they made ten times bigger a deal out of us getting a hop ball two minutes before we scored last week.

I'm full of praise for the manager and the boys. We deserved 3 points, but oh well. I'm gutted we didn't get more from this game.

Hope arsenal and abu dhabi draw. We can't afford a slip up in the form of a loss, but maybe one draw we can get away with?
