The point, surely, is that insertion of the rods might prevent his head going critical and him having a complete meltdown. And if not, it would be fun to watch anyway.

Thangam Debannaire said the party failed to tackle the Gaza issue, properly and get a clear message out.  The other parties were pumping out half truths, about the topic.  It was a good interview on CH4.

He’s really picked a good cabinet. Like others have said, it feels weird to see them all around the table and not think ‘what a bunch of wankers’.

It feels like something positive is happening every day. The cabinet seem to genuinely care and all seem keen to take responsibility for making changes early. Whereas the recent Tory cabinets have just been the same Z-list politicians being shuffled around different positions and achieving nothing each time. Makes you wonder what Sunak’s team were doing for the 18 months they were in charge.

There’s an open goal for Starmer if England win the Euros too. By giving everyone a public holiday he’d instantly and significantly boost his popularity with the general public.

The Tories had got to the point of concentrating on spinning failure as success rather than aspiring to actual success.  They had long since exhausted their playbook and (unsurprisingly) only made things worse at each step.

It's great to have a cabinet that seem to be brimming with ideas and enthusiasm.  With money tight there will need to be some losers to fund the winners - for the first time in 14 years I have some hope that those respective choices might be chosen with good conscience and not to please some donors.

Aye. The Tories boxed themselves in through a mix of ideology and siege mentality - and probably a big dollop of denial thrown in.

But as you say, with a Labour government there will be winners and losers. The new government doesn't want to get bogged down in political theatre. They will be willing to listen and to talk, so I hope all sides will be prepared to hold realistic expectations.

They're also the kind of people to promote incompetent people to avoid creating a threat for themselves in the future. Keir just wants good people even if one of them ends up more popular than him.

Kier Starmer turns 62 in September. I imagine he doesn't want to still be doing the job when he's 70. He's probably keen for capable people to get some solid experience, as one of them will need to replace him at some point.

That exit poll model was shocking. Not so much in terms of seat predictions - that was broadly very accurate for such a complex election. But the certainty of the likelihoods were completely off.
