Chambers has to start.

Considering Scanlon made the bench for the derby on Saturday and Chambers played for the U21s the next day, I can't see it. Scanlon was also preferred in pre-season.

I was a bit surprised Scanlon made the bench ahead of Chambers for the derby - any ideas why?

Chambers picked up a knock on England U20 duty.

Not sure who is ahead out of him or Scanlon

They seem to be very yellow card friendly. Hopefully the refs keep the game under control.

Thanks for the OP Dougle, always enjoy a bit of history,

We’ve made a good start in this, should hopefully maintain that. Due to injuries the team is likely to be slightly weaker perhaps than the first two games.

Imagine Kelleher, Gomez, Matip, Quansah, Endo, Jones, Elliott, Gakpo all start though so plenty of talent still available.

I’ll be happy with any kind of win, with no injuries.

I think Jones definitely needs some game time - at this rate with suspension and International break he’ll need his own pre-season. :D

Not sure who is ahead out of him or Scanlon

I think the clue is in Klopp mentioning chambers by name and not scanlon.  Chambers is also older and stronger defensively

As someone mentioned above he picked up a knock whilst away on international duty but managed to play 45 minutes for the reserves, I think he’s ahead of Scanlon and one we had high hopes for.

When we played these in 2007 I mentioned we were playing Toulouse to the missus.

She came back with "why are we playing to lose".  I still bring it up from time to time.  I think she beat me to it this year when the draw was made - she gave me that stare!

I was just looking up the team from the home game in 2007. Despite resting Gerrard, Carragher and Torres (on the bench) we still fielded a pretty strong team inc Mascherano, Sissoko, Hyypia, Agger. Sebastian Leto also made his debut!

Sometimes forget how strong our team was in those 2/3 years after Torres signed.

'The Q' :D I keep pronouncing his name as Yarell, a la Charles Dance in The Golden Child (underrated movie).

I like that team, but somehow don't think we'll play Bajcetic and Endo together. Maybe Elliott in for Bajcetic and one of the other forwards up front, maybe Diaz. Also, is Kelleher fit?

He was on the bench for the derby so you have to presume he's ready to go. I wouldn't mind Alisson playing though, hopefully we just give ourselves the best chance of winning this game because if we do we're more or less guaranteed for qualification, then it's just about winning another game which should be enough to see us win the group.

Press conference round-up
So, here are the main points from Jurgen Klopp's latest meeting with the media:

Andy Robertson has undergone surgery today, rehab starts now
Cody Gakpo back in team training, available for selection
Method behind Darwin Nunez snub for the Merseyside derby
Not many changes to be expected tomorrow night

"We will make some changes - not too many, we will see - but the boys have shown already they are ready for the competition. We hope to go long, long, long in this competition."

"Darwin is in a really good moment, took some time to adapt to everything but everyone is very happy with him. We made a decision who of two could start v Everton, Diaz or Darwin. Lucho's job was to create. Darwin came on and killed the game, that was the idea, it worked."

"I haven't thought about Sunday, yet. Tolouse deserves all of our respect. Won the French Cup, a massive thing. This year, a young, talented team. They have a clear idea but we have to see how they show up here.
"It's not that I think we can lose this game, we want to win and that's the next thing we have to bring us 9 points. We have to play our best, make a few changes, not too many, we will see. The boys showed so far they are really ready for the competition.
"They got a point against PSG which is obviously a massive one. We have to make sure we are ready for it. But then it's about us, that we really create an atmosphere with the way we play."

"Cody is in full training now since Sunday. He is available for the squad. Thiago and Bajcetic are both out."

Robbo had surgery and all went well, as good as it could be. Rehab starts as soon as he wakes up, I think it happened this morning."

An intriguing game, where for me it will be us trying to go with the second string and those needing playing time, and Comolli trying every bit of trickery known to his statto's and coaching team to eke degrees of advantage. Then late in the 2nd half, we will bring the big guns on if we need to. And beat them.

Short of starting all of the u21's I'm struggling to see how this should be all that hard for a fully rotated first team. Which Klopp is saying he isn't even going to do! Should just be a fun game for the team to go out and express themselves, take it serious and the 3 points should be in the bag.
