Why is it the vast majority of Americans involved in golf are monumental arseholes?, is it an extension of their entitlement from having a few quid (golf is mostly a sport for those wealthy enough to play it) and being members of exclusive golf clubs?
There's a statistical quirk* that being American and having a stupid, twattish first name that is really a surname correlates moderately strongly to being a) from a rich background**; and b) a complete whopper in real life.
A think back through some prominent American golfers in recentish years and we have Payne, Davis, Hunter, Keegan, Brandt, Webb, Brooks, Bryson, Wyndham.

** in the UK, the converse is generally true and it is the lowest social demographic that burden their offspring with stupid, twattish names, although these stupid, twattish names aren't usually really a surname, but rather after a C-list celebrity or wine.
