To be honest I wasn’t really referring to this thread, just the general online attitude. There’s plenty of that stuff on Twitter.
Fair enough.  I can well believe that Twitter is a cesspit on this subject as it tends to be on most things.

One big learning point for the sub industry in the wake of this - do not paint them white and blue.

I reckon it imploded. Nobody seems convinced about the knocking sounds.

Probably the best/kindest of any of the fatal outcomes for the occupants.
Near instantaneous obliteration.
Would happen so fast the brain couldn't register it.
You would just cease to exist.

Trouble is this is so easily juxtaposed with the sinking of a ship and 650 migrants fleeing in desperation where the world simply shrugs and even tries to criminalise further rescues, yet will mobilise everybody possible for a few very rich people who paid thousands to put their lives at risk in a Heath Robinson submarine for sightseeing.

I'm not happy people have died, the poor father and his kid especially gets me as a dad myself.
Someone said earlier though that its not about how much people are worth.
But it very much is.
Every where we look and the billionaires, the super rich all benefit from this the most. At our expense.

It looks like a cross between a fleshlight and a Superlambanana

(another thing the sub and a fleshlight have in common is that they're both full of dead seamen)

A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

Surprised musk hasn’t offered to help yet.

He's saved his interjection to distance himself from any besmirching of his Starlink

I suppose it's better than branding those trying to rescue the sub as 'paedos'

It’s totally dark down there so it doesn’t make a difference really

I was thinking more about the possibility that it could be at the surface or just under the surface, even searching with the naked eye would be difficult.

I think it's definitely imploded, which would be a better way to go for the occupants, but a shame in the sense that the wreckage will probably never be found.

If it's debris found then hopefully an quick implosion rather than slow pain suffocation.

Even if there was no implosion we’re probably way past the point where they could be rescued anyway, this is a search and recover mission now. So, in that case implosion is best case scenario.

Well.  They wouldn't be there, if it wasn't for the ship being there.

You could say that about virtually every disaster and tragedy in human history. Hell you could say that about someone getting mugged walking through a known rough area.

Let's not resort to victim shaming, just because the victims died over a century ago?

Saying that Hamish had been down to the Mariana Trench in the past. That’s about 3 times deeper than the titanic. We knew he’d been “into space” on blue horizon.

He knows a few of them pretty well and he’s getting his info from people on the ships but yeah, he’s probably the first in the world to tell the masses it’s parts of Titan.

I would say so. I'm guessing the view port failed and shattered the whole vehicle, leave the landing skids to just drift to the bottom :(

What did they aim to achieve by going down there?

It's just a cold, hard fact.  If there's no wreck, they wouldn't be there.  Nothing to do with victim shaming whatsoever.

Oceangate has just released this statement.

We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost, a statement from OceanGate says.

These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans. Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew.

This is an extremely sad time for our dedicated employees who are exhausted and grieving deeply over this loss. The entire OceanGate family is deeply grateful for the countless men and women from multiple organizations of the international community who expedited wide-ranging resources and have worked so very hard on this mission.

We appreciate their commitment to finding these five explorers, and their days and nights of tireless work in support of our crew and their families.

This is a very sad time for the entire explorer community, and for each of the family members of those lost at sea.

We respectfully ask that the privacy of these families be respected during this most painful time.

It’s pretty flat there. That’s it. Would have to move many, many miles to start getting any deeper. Sounds like it’s been found 200m from the titanics bow. No suggestion it hit or touch the ship itself.

Pretty clear it was a catastrophic failure and implosion as the reached the wreck. That’s consistent with the loss of contact. Small mercies that it will have been instantaneous death.
