I thought he was very poor before his first goal. Hopefully, this helps his confidence.

Forwards have it so easy. All they need to do is turn it on for 2/3 touches inside the opposition box and it's irrelevant how they played before that moment.

I thought he was very poor before his first goal. Hopefully, this helps his confidence.

Thought he was confident ever since he got here. Even from the off you can tell how intelligent he was as a footballer. The way he slowly integrated into the team shows that very much, with every passing game he got better and better.

Think people have to watch more football for it’s nuances rather than just the end result. He’s probably going to be the most important footballer in our attacking setup for years to come.

That second goal would have given De Gea flashbacks of Coutinho in the UEFA cup.

Just a great player. Two wonderful goals that.
With more games his combinations with Salah and Nunez will get even better.

He's also getting better at helping our midfield in buildup.

Looking a smart Bobby replacement, a bit like Diaz being a Mane replacement last January.

The question is going to be who plays through the middle when you've got Jota, Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo all fit? But it's a good problem to have.

Didn't understand the Flak he was getting in the first few games, he showed glimpses he's a silky player, now he's adding goals and we now can see why we wanted him here asap.

Brilliant from the club to have replaced Bobby and Mane so quickly.

The question is going to be who plays through the middle when you've got Jota, Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo all fit? But it's a good problem to have.

Gakpo and Nunez interchanged all game, with Gakpo dropping back often to serve as the link between attack and midfield. His pressing now is improving too, as you can see he often serves as the lead presser putting pressure on De Gea.

It’s the future of our attack now. We’ve lost a bit of our verticality with Mane gone and Diaz injured. But with Gakpo we’ve been able to shore up both our attack and defense like Firmino did when Klopp arrived to the club.

Superb today. Love how confident he is keeping the ball under pressure, so important when the opposition have a foot hold in the game. The thing is though, he doesn’t hold it up back to goal like a traditional big man would, he holds it up and looks to go forward instantly.

He is the false 9 we dreamt of to replace Bobby. Not as rapid as Mo/Darwin/Diaz but insane workrate, top drawer finishing and he can actually play with back to goal. People have been going on and on about how he is being played out of position by Klopp but the way he is improving game by game tells me he's been playing the wrong position all his life until Van Gaal and then Klopp spotted the gold standard he could be centrally instead.

Lovely finish for the first and some flashes of top class hold up play.

This is not a dig at you specifically but I’ve always hated the term ‘hold up play’. I know I’ve used it before but I still find it to be very archaic. It always sounds like the attack is being held up until the reinforcements arrive. But that’s nothing like how we played, especially today.

I found what Gakpo was doing today was more like ‘transitional play’. He constantly has his head up with the ball at his feet both looking for outlets and communicating with his teammates. He’s not stuck there with his back to goal waiting for reinforcements, he’s getting the ball and facilitating for it’s onward movement. Today was the first I’ve seen us form triangles now in midfield in a long time, with Gakpo as the facilitator. With it, we managed to cut through Casemiro and Fred quite easily, could have put them both in body bags after halftime.

The best player on the field.

Movement, understanding of how play is unfolding, technique to instantly do what he wants - pass, shoot, dink

Killed the game with two beautifully taken goals.
