Let’s not forget Gerard won 5 of the trophies that are displayed on the wall at Anfield. A fine achievement.

The manager who began our habit of dumping Barcelona out of Europe.  ;)

I always found it mad that he was an assistant at Alsop school which I lived opposite of when I was younger. When he was in charge of us I was only a young lad and me and my mates always used to buzz off that he used to work there and now was managing Liverpool.

Awful to just hear this news.

So sad to hear he has passed away. Left us some brilliant memories and starting us back on the right path again after the awful 90's.

This is such sad news. Shedding a little tear in my heart today.

He was so under appreciated by the fan base for what he did for the club. He dragged us out of the dark ages and helped to modernise the club, and gave me some of my most wonderful times as a Liverpool supporter, culminating in that amazing treble season.

A gentleman, a winner and an innovator. Rest in peace Gerard Houllier

Sad news. Was always a great sparring partner for Wenger with both being French & both having utmost respect for each other.

Quite young to leave us considering Wenger is only 2 years younger.

Thoughts are with the full Liverpool family.

What a reception he got that night

He changed the mentality of the club and brought us some great memories.

I watched the 2001 FA cup final round my mates house, who was a huge Arsenal fan!

I was the only one left in the house watching the trophy lift at the end  :)

RIP YNWA Ged. A great person and really appreciate what he did for the club & players

A great article in Guardian about  how managing Liverpool nearly killed him, plus also inspired a lot of charity and awareness work that LFC  community and player out reach does.

Sad news

With those 3 trophies in one season virtually any other club in England he’d be the greatest manager in their history .

A great achievement very few managers have ever won 3 major trophies let alone in one season

Devastated.

I am 27 so Gerard was the first Liverpool manager I can remember clearly as a fan. I still remember the joy from the 2000/2001 season, or going the cup final in Cardiff in 2003. When I started going to the game regularly, the Liverpool I fell in love with was under Gerard's management.

No age at all to pass away

RIP Houllier, YNWA.

I’d forgotten about the 2003 League Cup win. Season ended badly but that was one of my best days out. Not often you get to see us beat United in a cup final!

A gentleman, he turned the club round...
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”

Oh no, what horrible new to wake up to.

The 2001 treble season might be my favourite season ever - it was such a fun team, full of characters and heart, all of whom played for the boss. They never gave up, never knew when they were beaten -just like their manager. I remember being in America on holidays for the derby and dancing around a bar when Gary Mac's goal hit the net. For Dortmund and Cardiff we'll always remember Gerard with love and affection. And we showed him our love at the Roma game when he made his comeback the following year.

Rest in Peace coach, YNWA.
