Next European Away?
« on: September 19, 2020, 01:43:55 pm »
Just before I use my leave at work I'd saved for our 3 CL group away games.. (as I'd be frustrated to get this wrong having hardly missed any in years)...

Wanted to get consensus from everyone - likely no chance of fans going to European away games in 2020 - or possible?

Have we heard anything concrete that says 100% no? (I'm good with this - not pushing for it).
Have we heard if the no credits announcement counts for competitions other than Premier League Home Games?

Probably predict 99.9% no. Even if we were allowed x number of tickets then you’d most likely have to quarantine for 14 days upon return. I suspect it’ll be like this until the 1/4s if not the whole tournament.

I'd forgotten about the whole quarantine thing yes you're right that would be an issue having to ask to work from home for 14 days after.

I'm in the same boat wondering whether to use up my holidays. Was thinking I'd just wait till 1st Oct to see who we get just in case. Could we get Celtic and if so, any chance there? I'm still WFH and have no problems with the quarantine issue.

Ah missed that, cheers.

If we don't get to do any, they will have to do the same for our credits as with the other comps to keep them safe.

Do any countries have any fans in yet? Or near to?
Any of them in this competition?

Germany starting but different kettle of fish to allow away fans in i think due to different infection rates

I’d be amazed if there’s any away fans in the group stage

I think the competition itself is touch and go to go uninterrupted given the rise in cases being seen

I didn't even notice it was on as our game was at the same time, but looked like 20k at the SuperCup last week?

For the first time in years instead of having to carefully plan and save annual leave days, I've got days to spare and nowhere to go!

Yeah, was essentially a pilot run for UEFA which seems to me they're keen to force through some range of fans in attendance. Thermal cameras and masks to be worn except at your seats (which are socially distanced from other 'bubbles'.

Really depends on local laws though. I think we can write-off having fans in the PL at least until the latter part of the year. I'd be somewhat doubtful any Euro away would have an allocation too.

Best case scenario for me will be the latter stages of the competition but depends on a lot of different factors.

Interestingly the UK government advises against travelling to Hungary but 'sporting and cultural' events are listed as an exception. Odd.

Was that not to cover F1 teams heading over for the recent race?

I've got no idea of the context, but it'd have let you visit for the Super Cup if you fancied it.

UEFA are saying 30% home fans allowed in if their country's Covid restrictions allow it, but no away fans anywhere. So all the clubs we face can have home fans in I think (Holland currently under a 3 week ban) but we can't.

Debating Atalanta as I have family over there, its not on the no travel list and they are allowing fans in in Italy so may be able to blag a ticket in the home end.

Just hoping its in December so there's more chance.

Yesterday was the first time the no going to football really hit home would of been at Ajax (amazing that was first time in nearly 50 years we had drawn them) and the trip to Midtjylland would of been one of those special trips like Maribor, even more so as it is even smaller.

Yeah it hit me hard last night aswell. I went the pub with all my mates anyway for the Chelsea trophy lift game an we had a laugh so that wasn't too bad but watching the match last night at home I was gutted.

Gutting seeing the draw today and knowing it’s highly unlikely we will be able to go , there the best trips the Euro aways , last few days memories of last year popping up on my phone of this time last year of the freezing cold of Salzburg onto yesterday being on my way to the warmth of Qatar .

Not entirely sure we'll make it the way things are going at the minute, but the Europa League final is at the Sanchez Pizjuan next season. That'd be nice, wouldn't it? Champions League football would probably be nicer but hey ho.

Any form of European football or just fucking travel in general would be welcome. There's bigger things to worry about what competition we're in but regardless let's just hope good times are back once more, sooner rather than later  :scarf

In September 2020 I put this post up.

We're now in July 2021, coming up for the 3 CL group games from September onwards.

So might as well ask it again...

Reckon we will be able to attend euro aways?

If you've got to take tests, isolate on return etc, I just can't see it being realistic.

What we guessing?
