We can only control what we do, I don’t care what other clubs are doing, we’ve essentially spent next to nothing this window as it stands so I think it’s reasonable to expect us to do some great deals this window, if we don’t then we can revisit the topic later

You can revisit it and we can all point and laugh at someone so obsessed with transfers instead of actually supporting the manager and the players that we have at the club (who won us number 6, number 19, number 1 and number 4).
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

The team we have today is a result of cumulative improvement and effort over time, the results we get this season is a result of prior work and strengthening and can be impacted if we make fantastic signings in the short term but usually this takes longer, I don’t think the impact by those signings has been as good as we were hoping for, otherwise last season we went from 1st to 3rd, is that a fair way to judge the impact of Thiago/Jota etc?

Not what I was replying to. You basically said the year we won the title wasn't excellent or fantastic and that's just unadulterated bullshit. You clearly have no understanding of football whatsoever if you're not able to see why we went from 1st to 3rd last season and yet want to judge the impact on two players who spent circa 4 months each out of an 8 months season. Get a grip of reality.

Is it fair to judge them without even acknowledging the unprecedented injuries?

What do you think?

We had unprecedented injuries especially in defence. How well did the club address the problem?

What has that got to do with assessing Jota and Thiago as I replied to?

Just when you think this thread can’t get any worse lo and behold it sinks further. FSG debate, shite midfield goal return are not what this thread are about. I enjoy coming to this thread and seeing us linked to random players through Samies shite sources and the awful puns and the bears but it’s getting to the point where it’s better to lock till there is actual news on the transfer front.

What effect did having countless injuries, and players moving positions due to that, have on our set up and the performances of the team, and therefore the new players?

I’ve genuinely never seen anyone move the goal posts so much. And I’ve argued with Al plenty.

Jota is a great signing, Thiago wasn’t as good as i was hoping for initially but he looked much better in the last few months-

Jota was signed long before any of those injuries occured, how on earth are you counting that as a response to the injury crisis?

Klopp responded by first playing Fabinho and Henderson in defense to keep our best and most experienced players on the pitch.

Edwards responded by signing two central defenders in the mid season transfer window.

The owners doesn't really come into it. They let their DOF and head coach do their job without micro managing, which is exactly what you'd want from the owners.

I blame a lot of this on laptop Eddy for eroding our faith in ITK's. It used to be that Pearce could vaguely reference a player and we'd all talk about him for weeks, now none of us buy any of the links put out there because we're all waiting for an out of the blue name to suddenly be signed one day.

We had major injuries in central defence -
Klopp asked for new defender but was over ruled
The club then ended up buying two players at the end of the window

We should expect the recruitment team to do a better job but it’s done

I’m not shady Craig is-

He mentioned we had injuries which is why we finished 3rd, I said how did we address the injury crisis and he starts taking about Jota

To answer your point directly

We had injuries, we thought we could get away with it and then we forced to act after we slumped-

The owners or at least the management structure do come into the equation because Klopp wanted a defender ASAP and he was told we would wait for the right player in the summer

It was a bad call but overall they get things right, shit happens

For some reason if I criticise one decision it seems like I’m completely critical which I’m not

Anyway, transfers!

Does anyone think they may hold off selling Nat till the very end of the window? (If he is sold at all of course).

There will be 3 league games I think before the window closes, with Gomez and Virgil maybe not being quite ready, would they just hang on to Nat. Or too much of a risk in case interested teams move on?

Just wondering really, cos they pulled him out of the first friendly which suggested something may be close, but then he played vs Mainz. I suppose we’ll see if he carries on playing the next friendlies.

Is this misinformation still a thing?  Sure, Klopp wanted a defender (and I would argue that it wasn't just Klopp given that we knew that both VVD and Joe were out for the rest of the season) but ,3 days before the end of the transfer window, Matip was still injury free. (He came off at HT when we played Spurs.) I'm sure the team gambled on us getting through the window with Matip, Fabinho, Hendo, Phillips and Williams knowing that they had already earmarked Konate. They couldn't get him because RBL would not let him go. But Matip's injury forced our hand and we were able to get Kabak in on loan.  It's obvious Kabak was never our primary target mainly because there was no obligation to buy even at (just) £18m.

The recruitment team actually did a fantastic job in ensuring that we had some reinforcements (for a princely sum of £2.5m) even though it wasn't an ideal situation.

The actions of the owners/Gordon hugely impact it.
They have to authorise spend and how much.
For instance, Klopp and Edwards may say they want to strengthen this summer, if the owners think we cannot afford to then we won't be. If the owners want to wait until we receive bids for players instead of buying players first and concluding outgoings after then that is what we will do. If it means we miss out on our targets then that is their call, not Klopp and Edwards.
