"Growing calls" One chairman not even brave enough to put their name to their comments. As others have said, where is the sense in starting a new season when you've no idea if you'll be able to finish it rather than completing one that is already three quarters done? There is none, naked self interest on display. Pretty pathetic really given the circumstances.
I for one welcome our new insect overloads

Me too. It's probably City. Sounds like the type of holier than thou nonsense their c*nty chairman would come out with,  and they're one of the few clubs who could absorb the loss of TV money.

I reckon it's Spurs. They'd be quite pleased if we go forward with the top 4 from last season

Think the FA decision shows horrendous contempt for grassroots football, and also now leads to the obvious issue of how you deal with next season.

There is no way the FA (or Prem) would be able to create new (agreed) legally binding rules for next season, so we would simply get into the same situation if we get the same kind of lockdown.

It's callous to be preparing for a new season - just keep things simple and finish the old one, whenever that will be.

Also, the proposals of stopping relegation and creating a 22 team league are even more stupid - adding 4 games for each team next season just makes the congestion even worse!

I love how a week ago all the teams were on board with finishing the season regardless. And all of a sudden 1 week on - there is "growing" sentiment to abandon the league on "moral" grounds. The agendas are so so blatant.

There is nothing 'immoral' about waiting to see what happens. If in the course of time it becomes impossible to complete the season then that's something we will have to deal with, but to use this crisis to campaign blatently in self interest is dispicable. It is easy to narrow down which clubs would benefit most from this and in that number who would be so callous as to promote it. Spurs and Levy spring to mind.

I doubt it's Karren Brady again. She's already publicly aired those views. My guess is it's Everton, City or United, because they know how obviously biased it'd look.

Nah. It's not these clubs. Either it's Spurs or the relegation threatened clubs.

Love how in that article they mention football is not important , which is definitely not right now but they care enough to start in September. If football is unimportant, why do you care when the new season starts or if it continues where it stopped from or is null and void? Absolute self serving dickheads.

Its clear who wants the season to be abandoned. That's clubs that are in danger of being relegated or missing out on European football. There's too much money involved however that to be done. So it will be resumed whenever that is deemed fit, because it's utterly lunacy to start a new season at whatever point without finishing 12 games of this one.

I'll quote this as this is why the premier league won't be cancelled

I think the season will be played out.

BUT, if this goes on, there will come a point where there is more money to be lost from failing to start a new season than there is to be gained from completing the old one.

I posted this on the other thread but relevant here too, here's a breakdown of the money every premier league club received last season, & remember they have a new TV deal from this season so the money has gone up, so no way the season will be cancelled as the clubs will have to pay the TV money back, & receive no prize money.

This is why the season wont be cancelled, plus everyone forgets the Euros have been moved to next year too so the season can be completed, Spain & Italy want their seasons to finish.

On moral grounds..

People need sport in their life. It helps with people's mental state and is a realise. The players need it for their health also.

No other sport would stop on moral grounds. If the league ends then that's me done with the game.

Even if football is done behind closed doors I would take that. No excuses not for the season to finish at so point.

I'm ready to say goodbye to Football if this happens...

If this virus goes on for even longer than August into September will we have to wait until August 2021 to start a fresh season?

Why the fuck does everyone keep going on about next season and truncating time frames? Just finish this season when this pandemic is over. If that's in February next year so be it. Then start a new season in 2021/22.

Yep, there's far too much money involved for the season to be cancelled, City can afford to take a hit, but would every other club want to void prize money & pay back the money they received so far for this season if it's cancelled & void, Sheffield United & Wolves amongst others would be fuming.

One positive though it's put VAR on the back burner. ;D

They wouldn't have to pay anything back though. They've played the games up to now and the TV companies have benefited from having them on air, receiving subs for that time and selling advertising space during the coverage.

The only things clubs wouldn't get is a final payment for the remainder of the season which wouldn't air.

If merely curtailed, then probably yes. But if voided then who knows, maybe the broadcasters, sponsors etc would lawyer up and might be able to make a convincing argument that if a season is voided and all games, results and outcomes are expunged from the records then that is not what they paid big money for; the goods, as it were, were not as sold to them.

I reckon they'd have a good chance of getting much of the money back on those grounds. You don't pay billions for something that administratively, and documentarily is deemed not to exist.

Who knows. There'd be some entertainment in watching it all unfold and fall out, though a poor replacement for the actual matches and season, of course.

Itís still all guesswork by us fans. Nobody is more in the know than anyone else. People like to read into things like the Euroís being moved as if that backs up their claim that the Premier League will resume. Or they float the imaginary and unverifiable idea that clubs will have to give back all the money accrued during the season so far. Nobody knows any of that because none of this has ever happened before. L

My own guesswork? Voided, cancelled, whatever term you wish to use, we wonít win the title. I accepted that a few weeks back. Itís no more outlandish an idea than the league being resumed.

Itís not more outlandish. Thereís no precedent for either here. No sporting event as huge as the Premier League has ever been compromised by such a huge global issue as Covid-19. Weíre in uncharted waters and none of us know what will happen next.

Agreed. I think if this season can't get up and running again but July then I'm expecting cancellation. I have no idea what they'll decide to do with awarding things. If it was a lot closer at the top or we had played less than 20 games I think it would have been abandoned already.

It's true that this is uncharted territory, you're right to highlight that, and more people need to bear that in mind when making ridiculous ''declarations'' of what will happen.

But uncharted doesn't mean anarchic, ''anything-could-happen'' randomness. There are still likelihoods and less-likelihoods; there are still clues in the nearest similar situations that can be found, and, most importantly, there are whopping big flashing neon light clues in the stated intentions and plans of those involved - the things they have actually said they intend to do. Not to mention reasonable estimates reached via analysis of what the various outcomes would involve (such as financial, legal, reputational and other kinds of fallout) - you know actual considered sober analysis instead of losing ones shit about it.

Quote
At no point did I say voided and cancelled meant the same thing.
True enough you didn't use these exact words. You did, however, say ''Voided, cancelled, whatever term you wish to use'' which seems very much to equate the two terms, and you did add ''we wonít win the title'' which is an outcome that only applies to voiding the season, not cancelling it and converting current standings to final standings, which would see us win the title.

Possibly, although clubs will still need to be televised and sponsored and as there are laws preventing them from excluding bidders just because said bidders exercised their legal rights previously, the likelihood will be that those same broadcasters and sponsors would bid again; and if their bids are the best/highest then money will talk as it has always done.

It is possible that clubs might use this crisis as a break point and elect to change their broadcast strategies, so that, for example, clubs start their own subscription broadcast services, cutting out the middlemen like Sky and BT. Not quite sure they're ready for that yet, though.
