Lets predict football is penciled in to kick off on June 06th, high chance that that is the earliest that we do see it again. Could you have a situation where two or three teams say they aren't comfortable with going back and refuse to play?

Kick them out of the league and award 3 points to the teams they are supposed to play
Let's talk about six, baby

What we need is a full investigation into the origin/cause so that something like this cannot happen again.

We will get this for sure, but the horse has bolted. This will have cost the world hundreds of thousands (possibly millions depending on what happens in the US, India and Africa) of lives and many trillions of dollars.

I posted this on the other thread but relevant here too, here's a breakdown of the money every premier league club received last season, & remember they have a new TV deal from this season so the money has gone up, so no way the season will be cancelled as the clubs will have to pay the TV money back, & receive no prize money.

Woke up at 3am this morning and all I could think about was the reds not getting over the line. Not that I don't have 1000 other things to worry about with both myself and my wife out of work and my Dad at 66 who has severe Asthma it's the reds keeping me awake!! Course it's the reds!

I'm not worried about it anymore. As the money table above shows, there's too much money which would need to be paid back to Sky/BT and that's before you think about PL prize money and then almost certainly an issue with fans wanting ticket money back.

Put all that against the idea of cramming the final 9 games in over a 1 month period, behind closed doors or not, whether that's in June or September, and then starting next season late but coming out of it all with nearly all the usual money for this AND next season - when you think of it like that the chances of this season being declared null and void are miniscule. Even West Ham stand to lose more by N&V than if they finish this season and got relegated.

And all this financially only, before we get to the massive headache of European qualification, promotion and relegation. You think Woodward would take another season out of the CL? What size of settlement would Leeds accept from the courts?

I was optimistic the season would be played out. But you see so many 'void seasons' etc its difficult to know how much that could still be applied.

I was checking the eds responses on liverpool-rumours site and there's the view the season won't be played past June 30th. No behind closed door games, therefore unlikely to have matches. And a proposal is on the table that includes freezing the table as it is, awarding CL/EL places as it stands, no relegation, Leeds/Brom promoted. And Liverpool not being awarded champions under this proposal.

You just go round in circles.

This all seems perfectly sound to me. Keep us posted on the ‘Liverpool Rumous sites’; they’re likely to be up to speed.

Also, maybe hide in some other threads for a bit rather than making your very first post the type of thing that creates Everton wet dreams...

Quite realistic.

If you look at China's curve of December to now (a month ahead of Europe) it took 3 months to get "out of the woods". Even adding another two months of recovery, that could mean a June start for Italy with us a further two weeks behind.
It's doable.

This country is going to get a whole lot worse in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
There will be a sort of hysteria and calls from idiots to "void it now!" (I'm looking at you Ferdinand!)
But the authorities need to hold their nerve and block out the peripheral noise.
We'll come out of this around mid-May I think. Another month of recovery and planning/preseason and I can imagine a restart sometime in June when all the naysayers and voiders will have melted like snowmen.

This is generally how I've started feeling. If it gets that bad that football can't be resumed for months and months then that means ffootball will have definitely become an irrelevance in everyone's life and there'll be no next season either!
Worrying about having a title denied us and any pisstaking that would follow would be the last thing on my mind.

I think it'll be exactly the opposite. People will be crying out for any form of new entertainment, especially if it has a communal element to it and represents some kind of return to normality. Football will be more popular than ever.

kind of sums it up for me. I'll worry about football when the time is right.

So then we carry on where we left off because one season leads onto the next one.  If it's safe enough to start an new season, it's safe enough to complete the last nine games.  ;D

My point was referring to a null and void season.

For that to be the case, it would have to mean footy can't be resumed to finalise this season (current plan is to finish it when safe even if that's July or August) and so therefore no footy in August would probably mean no next season start either.

To be clear ... If football hasn't resumed by the end of summer and we've had this season voided then football's over for me personally because it would mean that this crisis went on longer than expected and the severity beyond our estimation.

Not necessarily. The crisis could be wilfully prolonged to ensure the NHS is able to cope with the medical demands. A long lockdown isn’t necessarily a terrible thing health wise; it may indicate a responsible handling of the disease.

I would think football with supporters is a long way off, but sport without fans is maybe only a few months off I think. I think the government are aware of how entrenched sport is in people's psyche and how many people rely on it for enjoyment. Giving people things to focus on and enjoy is just as important as any other measures in my opinion. If people are constantly seeing things they like being taken away and nothing being put back on I think you could quickly see disillusionment, that's likely to just defeat the purpose of what you're trying to do.

You're just going to have to get used to morons calling for the season to be voided and Utd and Everton fans wetting themselves the more this goes on.
Not one official noise or from anyone with any credible sources or opinion have suggested it will be voided, they all say the same thing. The season finishes when its safe to do so. I dont really know what more anyone can say. They'd stated what will happen. If you can start something new, you can finish something that 75% done first.
Imagine watching Eastenders Christmas special for the first 45 mins, turning it off and missing the climax, then watching the next episode the next day. Pointless

I cannot see a long lockdown being plausible. Macron mentioned 6 weeks and its likely we do these 3 weeks and extend for another 3 weeks.

After that though unless the thing is completely out of control then restrictions will have to be open otherwise people won't have any money to pay for anything.

Possibly, you may well be right. However, I think my point stands in that a prolonged ‘crisis’ isn’t necessarily because of thousands of deaths and a situation that’s out of control.

Liverpool are the 6th richest club in the world and have just announced what amount to record profits over a 2 year spell for any football club. I don't think this is an issue.

Now if I worked for West Ham or Villa I would be less confident.

spent sod all in player fees so they’ll be fine, as the games are sold going forwards so shouldn’t be major cash flow issues barring the physical stores not being open

It's what German clubs do. They are much more socialist by nature than British clubs. It's not the money it saves as such, but rather the message it sends. "We are all in this together when times are tough".

The rest of this season and then next season (or at least most of it) quite probably will be behind closed doors or restricted to two meter social distancing which isn't really feasible beyond the Etihad stadium.

They'll try and get this season back underway behind closed doors within a couple of months. At least there's a chance now the government have finally started to act.

Right now football and sport doesn't matter  and it's all cancelled. But a couple of months of practical lockdown and everyone will be climbing the walls and  in need of light relief.

The two main issues, particularly the first thing:

1) Players will continue to catch the virus/symptoms of the virus - forcing often mass self-isolation and quarantine - and you obviously can't adhere to social distancing playing a game of football. How can they get around that? At some point they'll have to decide to just play on (or they'll just have to cancel football altogether until the vaccine) but it's how soon that decision is reached.

2) If matches are behind closed doors (which they'll have to be for the forseeable) then the safety advice will be against football going ahead IF the pubs are back open. When the pubs do re-open they'll presumably have to adhere to social distancing. If Liverpool are playing for the title, or it's Merseyside derby, then that's not going to happen.

I cannot envisage a situation where it is safe to play a game behind closed doors, but unsafe to have spectators.

The virus will be around for some while yet. Testing everybody, twice a week, is not possible at the moment. Nor is it likely to be for some time.

Restarting the season, only for it to be riven by postponements as players and staff catch the virus  on a staggered basis, is a non-starter.

The FA have suspended all non league football.... do people think it is right for them to do this and not the top divisions and also why do we think they have done this?

Non League season finishes at end of April (with some play offs into early May) after that contracts will be up and there's no money to pay players into the summer.
