So our postponed wedding is due on July 17th and supposedly all restrictions will be lifted by then - obviously I’m a little dubious about that. On the one hand it’s been such a miserable year that I want to start looking forward to it properly (obviously we couldn’t look forward to it last year, we’d postponed it by the start of May) but on the other hand the disappointment if we get to June 21st and restrictions can’t be lifted would be unbearable.

Have to make a decision one way or another soon though as people will need to sort time off work and accommodation etc. Really wish we’d just pushed it back to 2022 to be honest

My brother is hoping to get married in August so I'm guessing in his situation he will have more people to invite as everyone will have been offered first jab from adults perspective.

All of our older/vulnerable family members will have had both jabs by then (hopefully) so that shouldn't be too much of an issue, I just hate the uncertainty. Thankfully we're literally all sorted except for bridesmaid dresses so I won't be having to run about like a headless chicken... probably.

Feel a bit guilty to be honest, always said I was happy to wait to get the vaccine so others who need it more could be prioritised but then when you get the message through saying you can book it doesn't really make sense to put it off.

Think they would be better doing as the other nations with schools and taking a staged approach..Any increase in infections due to 10 million pupils going back at once is going to slow down the other stages (Hancock pretty much confirmed this on Sky News earlier).

Fortunately they appear to have learnt their lesson from last Summer and are taking things slower this time round. Hancock also said that there is no chance the dates will be brought forward and could slip depending on the data

I think the schools one is almost the trickiest stage, as most of the people impacted by the return to school will be in groups who won't have protection from vaccination at the time schools return.

Hopefully should start getting easier in future when the vaccination programme starts to move down the age tiers into groups who are more likely to be driving transmission.

Anyway, out of interest I found out why my 44 year old wife got offered a jab on Sunday. It turns out she is my 'carer' due to my epilepsy. I have made various jokes about it since, not least the lack of care and have pointed out the deficiencies in the care package she offers. I have 2 sore arms now.

Looking at all the forecasting, I think you should go ahead and have a great wedding.  I think you have very little to worry about for any vulnerable guests (maybe a few masks?).

The time we don’t know about it the autumn. That’s the big unknown. Will there be a significant fourth wave?  It’s too early to tell.

But I think you should go ahead.

Am I missing something here - I didn't hear any mention about lifting foreign travel restrictions in the briefing last night?  Looking at the vaccine roll out across Europe, for example, they are potentially going to be behind the UK for quite some time, so why would they open themselves up to foreign holiday makers if they are still living under their own restrictions?  It was only a couple of weeks ago we were told by our esteemed government that no one should be booking any holidays - has that advice now changed?

It does feel a little silly to see some people being missed off. One guy I know who is 50 (with no underlying issues) had his offered a few days before people who do. This is through the same surgery. The surgery have been txting directly asking people to book at one of their centres so some of the omissions could simply be down to people not having their mobile numbers up to date or quite simply mistakes being made when creating the lists.

Our surgery does seem to be working like clockwork getting them done so I'm guessing they are moving faster than other practices.

I'm surprised the govt haven't mandated for all teachers over 40 to be done in the next 2 weeks to coincide with the start of school.
We really should be looking at the frontline workers to be vaccinated next. Its all the service industry that can act as super spreaders.

Case in point, a mate who is still going to office told me they are not allowed to go to any floor that they are not based in, but the security guard on the front desk tested positive and gave it to others. The security was a single point of failure.

It's a tricky one that. If it were me I'd postpone it until 2022 if that is possible but then I would expect a lot of bookings will be gone for next year soon.

Personally I can't see weddings with upwards of 50 people without masks etc this summer - it would be great if they were but it relies on everything going absolutely perfectly from 8th March onwards.

Don't tell the missus, but I am really hopeful that all the current travel restrictions and barriers to foreign holidays remain in place through the summer, and all the people scrambling to book holidays are then scrambling to rearrange when the travel companies don't want to give their money back.  I feel really mean saying that but it feels like we will never learn, life isn't just going to snap back to the way it was instantly.

I wonder whether the government didn't want to talk about foreign travel restrictions continuing as it would have dulled the 'good news' message they were trying to give yesterday.  They are much less inclined to give us bad news so overtly.

So unless I got the wrong end of the stick a healthy 20 year old in the UK will have access to the vaccination before a 80 year old woman in Kenya? Totally agree. If you offered me just seeing family and friends in their houses, restaurants and cafes from April onwards that would be more than enough.

The over 60s are probably the age group most likely to be booking holidays I would have thought. But I also suspect a lot of parents with youngish kids will not want another summer of trying to entertain them without a holiday.

I completely understand the urge to want to get away and your sentence above describes my situation accurately.  I really hope that as vaccinations take hold that holiday destinations will start to open up, with minimal restrictions, this summer.  I just don't see how you could have enough confidence in that to want to hand over thousands to holiday companies desperate to prop up their COVID ravaged businesses.

Greece are looking into vaccine passports, with Israel right now but could easily expand to other countries.

I imagine they will be very motivated to reopen their tourism sector this summer and if visitors are fully vaccinated for a weeks weeks prior to travel, the risk could be quite low.

The problem of course is if the UK maintains it's mandatory quarantine on the way back.
