Assuming we're allowed to talk on here.

Be an interesting window in Europe. Think many top clubs will be stung by how well English teams have done in Europe. Dortmund have already spent £75m, Bayern & Real already over £100M with far more to come.

to be honest, I don't think that is going to affect things. Not like it's a year after year thing. English teams haven't been any more succesful in Europe than Spain in recent seasons. Liverpool is the only team who has raised the bar for the PL in Europe. Otherwise, it's sort of like 'as you where'! Chelsea scewed the Europa somewhat, but next season they are back in the CL, and if MU stick with Solskajaer, they won't be doing much in Europe. So I don't think English clubs will dominate there like this season. And I doubt Spurs will be able to repeat a final apperance either if they can't strengthen significantly (and if they lose a couple key players).

What will be interesting though is the money being spent, it's going to be insane. Bayern Munich are likely going to spend massively (they already have), Real too of course. There will be a lot of movement I'm sure, be interesting to see what Barcelona do too.  I don't think Dortmund will spend a ton more, but this is sort of normal summer spending for them now, around the 100 mill mark.

Don't mean it in a "ah fuck, we 'ate zee Eenglish" type thing, more of a sudden realisation that they need to reinvest.

I expect a lot of the top clubs: Real, Bayern, Barca, etc to reinvest heavily in youth. Physicality has been a huge factor this CL.

Everybody agrees the initial fee is £88m.  Nobody seems to know how much exactly the add-ons are and what it takes to trigger them so anything reported is just conjecture between competing narratives of Chelsea and Madrid and the agents.  I said in the La Liga thread that Madrid have to be sitting on a mountain of money so in the end it probably doesn't matter all that much other than how it affects the broader market as a price point.

£88.5m seems to be the reported base price, but the add-on numbers are all over the place. Unless the BBC have misconstrued €150m for £150m.

Yep. One year left on deal, Zidane his boyhood hero and only wanted to go to one team.

I've commented on this before but it happens every year with journalists conflating the amounts in euros and pounds and then going with the higher number in pounds to make the transfer fees bigger. Always happens to us.
So bloody what? If you watch football to be absolutely miserable then go watch cricket.

WTF. Up there with Joe Cole going to Lille

at least he'll feel at home playing for the inferior neighbour  :P  Not that Schalke fans are anywhere near as bitter as them lot, to be clear!

Schalke don't have a single right back on their first team squad, now they do I guess!

I've never seen him play I don't think! If I have, I have no recollection. No idea what he's like.

I can only guess that they need to do a lot of squad tinkering this summer, and may have the funds targeted towards other signings, so are going for a loan or two as well.

They played a back 3 all last season, no clue what they will do under Wagner now.

They're the richest team on the planet and have spent crumbs in the last few years. Every man and his dog could see they'd be sitting on an absolute fortune. They could sign any player in the world if they wanted him badly enough. Don't be shocked if they've another monster transfer lined up.

Excellent business by Real Madrid so far. Got to be massive favorites for La Liga.

Yep,got to say at least looking at individual talent, they've signed some very impressive players and are propably signing more.

They're the richest team on the planet and have spent crumbs in the last few years. Every man and his dog could see they'd be sitting on an absolute fortune. They could sign any player in the world if they wanted him badly enough. Don't be shocked if they've another monster transfer lined up.
They have wages of €414m payed in two lump sumps and without the sale of Ronaldo they wouldn’t have had the cash to pay the players wages without borrowing , and without the Ronaldo sale they would have shown a €87m loss for the season

They also borrowed €575 million to redevelop the Bernabeu, without one standard seat  been added

These didn't think they were in any trouble with regards to money. For example, their wages in relation to turnover is 53%, that's excellent. They'll have shed Ronaldo's wages and probably Bale's too soon. That would have freed up a fortune.

That’s not this season’s accounts either .....
Those accounts were produced then 24 hours later €207m was wiped of  cash reserves to pay wages that looked to be marked for transfers the following season

Like i said they would  have posted a loss of €87m without the sale of Ronaldo and demanded a £50m up front payment to pay players wages .

Bale isn’t in a hurry to leave , would t be surprised if he stays put and collects his £350k a week and costs Madrid about £50/100m in a transfer fee
Unless they hugely pay him off
If it wasn’t Zidane back they wouldn’t have spent so much imo

My point is they really need watch there  finances

This might just be bullshit, but I read on the Madrid subreddit that the reason Madrid are going all out early is that there's a new FFP component coming in on 1st July regarding the amount you can spend bs incomings, but only transfers after that date are effected by it. So they are rushing transfers through now and then will still be able to be FFP compliant it they decide to sign a Pogba/Erikssen after that date.

As I said, probably utter tripe but that's what the Spanish Madrid fans are saying.

It's OK, I'm sure they'll find (another) a training complex down the back of the sofa, to sell to the Spanish government at a vastly overinflated price, that'll mend their finances.

Bayer Leverkusen getting busy, already got Kerem Demirbay and Moussa Diaby signed up, today they've signed left back Daley Sinkgraven from Ajax for around 5 mill Euros.

Not too hot on this one. Didn't play much in the last two seasons, as he was out with an injury. But I guess it's low risk and they finally got someone to cover for Wendell.

yeah seems he may be one of these sort of low risk high reward signings, cos they are not paying a high fee, and I'd guess he's not on big wages. And yes, he suffered with a bad knee injury which saw him miss a lot of football, before that, he was getting regular games.

Demirbay we all know is a very talented player!

So it's Diaby is the one I look forward to seeing! I know very little about him, but he's meant to be a talented young player.
