So, they have officially signed André Gomes - this is Worrying Times™ for us

They never learn. This is why they are so bitter, they set themselves up for big disappointment every time.

Ah fuck, with the addition of Gomez on their squad last year these lot are going to improve no ends.

They’re back, aren’t they?  :-\
Just wait until Zouma signs, transforms their team entirely.

1995 called. It wants its post back.
Oh wait. 1996 and 1997 are also claiming it.
What the hell? 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 are fighting rigorously.
2004 holds down 2005 the throat while 2006 attempts to choke slam both of them only to end up getting kicked in the nuts.
2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 are silent spectators on the side lines.
2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 are nowhere to be seen.

They all just had that,United and Arsenal. Despite that theyre still miles ahead of them

tbf if United and Chelsea go in any direction next season it's likely to be down.  Everton's problem is they're running to stand still, tying down their loan players.  Plus they have to deal with Watford, Wolves, West Ham and Leicester.  Wolves and Leicester are especially dangerous and far more likely to challenge for top 5 than Everton are.

I'm puzzled. Dave says this guy is Champions League quality, but didn't Everton fans declare the CL no better than a European Community Shield when their neighbours won it the other week.

So, a poor signing for them yet again, eh.  :-\

In actual reality, if this fella is CL standard, he's really lowered his standards by signing for them, surely? Either he's wilfully throwing his career away or he's not as good as the BS think he is.

Gomes may be CL quality, Barca did sign him after all, but him signing for Everton would suggest that no CL clubs where in for him, or certainly not at the wages he wanted.

How he has a big fat long term contract, it'll be interesting to see how he goes. He struggled later last season after an initially strong start.  I'm sure the Blues are hoping that wasn't a sign of things to come.  He's a weird player of what I've seen of him. He can look the part in some games, but too often, he seems to contribute little. Still, he's their best midfielder, not that he has a lot of competition there.
Football always seems the most important of the least important things.

He missed an open goal from 3 yards out.  If that constitutes a decent game from him then no wonder everyone else in Europe passed on him.  ;D

I wouldn't know if he's CL quality or not because I have never seen him play, but if he is so, I wonder why no CL clubs were in for him?

Also, if he is, and he thinks he is himself, isn't it a backward step to sign for these? Or maybe he's doing what any decent upcoming player does when they go to Everton; just putting himself in the shop window, hoping a big club sees him shine in a puddle of shite and come in for him.

Speaking as a neutral fan, If you analyse the way Gomes runs, his heel angle at maximum running speed is at 75°. This is the most optimal angle for a footballer. Because of this, Gomes should be able to continue at the top level for another 10 years atleast. But Salah and Mane, have their heel angle set at 75.5°. Thats loading the heel beyond the safety margin. So, after 28 years of age, their performance will decline.

It does to some extent. Depends on the angle of tooth brush though. Gomes has it all figured out and can last 10 years. Firmino, despite his TWF, will be on a downhill from now on.

But what do I know about it. Everton fans will be able to rationalise it better than I ever can.

  • What we do in life, echoes in eternity!
So they’ve signed Gomes and will probably get Zouma, two players they already had last season. This will be most of their budget gone. So they’ll be relying on loans again to try and improve their squad.  If they workout, they’ll sign them next season, blowing most of that season budget again on players they already had.  So they will then rely on loans again, to try and improve their squad. The cycle will then just continue, with the odd success moving on for big bucks to the bigger clubs coz they haven’t moved forward. They should be renamed Try Before You Buy FC

Sadly not. I wasn't around to see it at the time, though I've seen the goal and resulting celebrations since.  8)

Must be some player, him. Strange that I've never heard him mentioned other than in GoT quotes in here.

Was that derby seriously his best performance? Didn't score, probably didn't create anything, missed a great chance as well. Could only have been a 7/10 performance from him at best, given they didn't really look like scoring after the first half, in which they were arguably better. Only got 1 goal all season too  ;D

I hope someone buys Gueye, their best midfielder, and they get left with Schneiderlin, because they'll be a fucking show again next year.

I do emphathise with Gomes, who has a decent level of talent, but he's not exactly the most mentally stout lad out there. There is a reason why he only cost 22 million, it's not because Barca are really trying to do them favours.

they get to keep their star after intense negotiating and fighting off the likes of PSG, Madrid and United, due to their illustrious history of dining at the top table of elite football, but my main concern is that they have now moved 10 points clear of the Transfer Window League
