Loving Everton's business this summer. Here's an early call - they finish above Liverpool this season.

Brighton v Liverpool

Referee: Kevin Friend
Assistants: Simon Long, Richard West
Fourth official: Roger East
So that pretty much rules out any penalties in the game...the one refree who plays it safe.

Dejan Lovren is unlikely to be fit for Liverpool's trip to Brighton on Saturday following his hamstring injury at Wolves.

The Croatia international pulled up inside the first five minutes of the Reds' 2-1 reverse at Molineux on Monday evening, forcing Jurgen Klopp to turn to 16-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever as they were knocked out of the FA Cup.

No timescale has been put on Lovren's recovery, but the ECHO understands the centre-back won't be ready for the trip to the Amex Stadium.

Would be over the moon with a comfy 2 nil or 3 nil win that we've become specialists at this season.

I have become desperate for us to win the league title, it's "consuming" me - imagine how hard it might be for the players/managerial staff?
These guys must have unspeakable levels of coolness or an indifference so shocking that it's unheard of.

Expecting this on the field

----------Salah-------
Manť----Firmino---Shaq
------Gini------Hendo
Robbo-VvD-Fabinho-TAA
----------Alisson------

What a nice spine we have - Alisson, VvD, Gini, Firmino, Salah.

I don't think the league title will be consuming Klopp or players. Of course, they are desperate to win it, for their careers and for the club.

But they haven't been experiencing the last 29 years as Liverpool fans. This is a good thing!

Nice OP!

Can't wait for this game.
Its a good one to get back on track and put the last couple of poor results.

I think we need to start out like a team on a mission and really go for the jugular. If we can get a goal or two ahead I believe we will knock the stuffing out of them. This game more than most is just about getting the 3 points however and I'll take them any way they come

Going to be a bastard of a game this, Hughton sets his teams up well and they will be difficult to break down. Add that to the disappointment of losing the last two games I think itís important to stay patient especially if weíre drawing at half time!

So important to get the win here for so many reasons.

This is our most important game this season... and to use the cliche: A must win

Reason? Bouncing back from the past two matches is imperative. We're under scrutiny and the only way of alleviating that pressure off is to bounce back immediately. Come back with a win and stick the middle finger up to all those who are expecting us to fail and show City and the rest of them that for all their huff and puff, we're actually the real thing and we're not going away. Put the lead back to 7 points and let them chase again. See what they're made of but more importantly, show everyone else that we're made of the right stuff.

For me, Wijnaldum has to start this - he's been the pick of our midfielders all season, with Hendo also nailed on to start - really not sure if Shaq will though...

Anyway, like I said: Three points please. Don't care how. Don't care why.

Three points to shut the fucking moaners, Manchester City fans, other anti-reds and naysayers right up and show our funny 5 mins has been done. Come on you mighty Reds

I agree with this.

Would be worth fans who are going to games to remember this to. The atmosphere at the Arsenal game was brilliant. Mainly because no-one panicked at 1-0. That massive roar about 5 seconds after they scored was brilliant.

As the run in progresses and things may get more tense, I think a key factor may be the fans not transmitting their nervousness from the stands onto the pitch.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Cheers for the OP SM.

As for us, I donít think anyone can look at that Premier League table Ė the one that says: Played 21, Won 17, Lost 1, Goals 49, Conceded 10 Ė and not consider this season a huge success so far. If the Manchester City result was deflating and the Wolves game proved a domestic cup run would have to wait another year, it isnít hard to take solace from the fact we were millimetres and a dodgy refereeing decision away from getting a result in the first game, and a fingertip away from doing the same away at a full-strength top-half team, with what were mostly second stringers and youth players.

The worry of course is that in recent years this club has been a creature of momentum, pulling off strings of fantastic results before coming up short when the pressure is really on. Having said that, the signings of Van Dijk and Allisson have given us a steel at the back it feels like we havenít had in years, and we still have the best front three in the division. Iím just about old enough to remember our last league title and this is the first time since then that we've had a rigid defence, exciting attack and a strong bench all at the same time. The only thing we need to cap it all off is a little bit of luck.

Agreed. I think this is one of the biggest tests of the season given we lost the Man City game (not the FA Cup game, despite losing - we lost at home with a stronger team against an inferior West Brom side last season and that didn't derail our season), which going into, we could have opened up a 10 point gap had we beaten them and now it's 4 points.

It's a pressure game given the circumstances but we seem more resilient this season  - hopefully not famous last words!
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

But they haven't been experiencing the last 29 years as Liverpool fans. This is a good thing!

That's a really great point. Most of them haven't even been on the planet for that long, and those that have (Klopp, Milner, Sturridge, etc), have already tasted title glory elsewhere.

We do sometimes magnify the pressure the players are under, yet apart from the likes of Gerrard and Carragher (and to an extent players like TAA), I'm not sure our players really feel the weight like we do, or feel that 29 years is such an eternity. They will occasionally feel some of that pressure and anxiety from the stands, but hopefully after this season that all evaporates  8)

This season more than ever we look like we are playing with confidence and authority, and I think any suggestion that two defeats in a row is a problem or a loss of momentum will be proven to be utter nonsense. Starting on Saturday.

I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

I don't think that's a side that'll allow us to get our full backs as far up the pitch as we'd like as neither Shaq or Keita have nailed their off the ball defensive duties so far.

Like the fact that we won 7 out of 9 games that he played in this year in the league with 5 goals conceded. That's up there with the best in the league this season. He may not be everyone's favourite player but look at the facts first especially the recent ones.
Agree, as a fanbase we might not like him but he wears the LiverBird on his chest so we have to support him! And the stats in those nine games are pretty good.

I think we may go to a back three (Robertson not bombing forward so much) because no question Brighton are going to throw everything at Fabinho and he'll need help.

We'll play a 4-2-3-1. Fabinho will be fine as CB with VVD next to him.

Mane - Salah - Shaq
Gini - Firmino - Hendo
Robbo - VVD - Fab - TAA

Keita will come on as a sub, as will Sturridge/Origi in the event we need a winner or we're comfortably ahead. If we're winning 1-0 or 2-1, I suspect Mane and/or Shaq will come off for Milner and Moreno

I was certain Fabinho would've started against City, however. Shame he didn't as our midfield struggled.

Fabinho just played CB against a full strength Wolves team, away from home, with 2 teenagers next to him,Moreno at LB and Mignolet in goal, and was pretty good. He'll be fine with our first choice defence.

VVD makes Lovren look like a competent defender most times so I have no worries about him marshalling Fabinho through this game.

Good side Brighton and can see them giving our lads a good run for the money. The side pretty much picks itself with just Jurgen pondering on midfield selection. Personally I would go with Milner patrolling the backline as he is very switched on when it comes to covering the spaces when the FBs kick forward. Gini in the middle with Henderson works for me and ask Firmino to fall back to supplement the hole. The two boys up front on the shoulders of the center backs ....anyhoo 3 points here would be a perfect tonic for any post Christmas hangover.

Potential banana skin but seeing how we've disposed some teams of that level away from home this season (watford, wolves, bournemouth etc) and comfortably to an extent,  I fully expect us to do the business Saturday but it wont be easy, give me a Divock 90+6 again all day. The performance against a City side (who 1 month ago were being lauded as the greatest PL team ever) who seemingly put everything they had into that game , just if anything proved how far we've come and how unreal we actually are. Nervous as its a huge game to get back on track but confident also.

Wouldn't play Keita from the start , huge fan of his and I think he'll be a star , but I fear for our midfield being too open with him there atm , especially away from home. 4-2-3-1 with Hendo Gini double pivot , and Shaq Bob and Mane behind Salah has to be it for me.

Exactly this. They are professionals, not fans (no matter how much we sometimes wish they were). Some of them already have titles and trophies under their belts. The rest of them have reached a Champions League final, failed, and come back the following season as the strongest Liverpool team we have seen for nearly three decades.

The players can handle it I have no doubt. I get that 2013/14 is still recent memory. But we were never even meant to be in that title race. This is different. There is still a long slog to go, and it will not be easy, but I think the players have done enough already to prove their mentality to the doubters.

Massive game this! Anything but a win will put the players and Klopp under a lot of pressure/scrutiny by media and oppo fans etc  :wanker

The stage is set.. The media is baying for blood and hoping we slip up..

Opposition managers/players/pundits have all had their say and tried to heap pressure on us..

Time to earn your bacon boys.. Time to pick up the 3 points and shut a few people up..

But more importantly, 3 points will mean we go 7 clear of City.. and in the recent past when we have played before the c*nts and picked up 3 points, they haven't been able to cope with the pressure of having to claw our lead back.. LET'S PUT 'THEM' UNDER PRESSURE AGAIN.. Let them feel like 'They have to go again' to remain on our coat tails.. Let their fans say shit themselves at the thought of dropped points..

Believe Redmen..

As for our playing eleven, I have no idea what midfield Klopp will play. The back 5 and front 3 pretty much pick themselves, unless Matip gives us a pleasant surprise..

I would be tempted to go with this:

                             Allison

TAA              Fabinho           VVD            Robbo

                            Hendo

                   Gini              Keita

           Salah                           Mane
                            Firmino

Shaqiri to come on for Keita, if we are chasing the game in the second half, with the team reverting to a 4-2-3-1

Milner to come on for Keita, if we are looking to hold on to a tight one goal lead

Sturridge, and Shaqiri to come on between the 65th and 85th minute if we are comfortable and with the points in the bag.

F*CK 0FF Mourinho..

If the game is comfortable Origi deserves way more of a run out than Sturridge. Sturridge was very disappointing against wolves and hes on his final year of contract anyway so I wouldn't be looking at him too much this season.

Biggest test for us here is that we have lost 2 games on the trot and we have one fit centre-back out of 4.

Forgetting seasons gone by this season we have not had to deal with pressure like that to respond. We are top of the table and that is also another factor to add in

Its great tho. Its an opportunity to show the rest of the league that we aren't scared of what's ahead but we are relishing the challenge! I actually think City battering teams in the last couple of games will be a nice motivator to that too.....so you wanna do that? great. We will win this, pick up the points and then what?

We are in the driving seat and I think Klopp is the sort of guy that loves this sort of challenge and the way he has shaped up the squad and his voice in their ears goes a lot further than anybody else's so I'm hoping that reflects on what we see on Saturday

One thing that seems to have gone under the radar was Klopp said Lovren was not part of the plan for Wolves, then he was due to other injuries and then he was out after two minutes. Of the late withdrawals we know about one was Henderson. Is he being seen as the next option after Fabinho where over is required?
