Great stuff this...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/48329869

Cracking stuff. Made up for the lad. He is clearly talented. Did you see the video of him getting a drive in a F1 car ? I will try and find it again if you can`t.

It would be one hell of a story if he gets near an F1 drive. The problem he will face is the force these guys have to use on the pedals I suppose. I don`t think some people realise quite how physical F1 is.

it would be super difficult and i think its a pipe dream

look how long it was before Kubica came back, and he is off the pace, i know the car is shite but Russell is well ahead of him. Still take nothing away for his comeback, to get to where is is amazing

Alex Zanardi talked about the complications of everything being hand controls back when he was in WTCC.
Basically Monza was his best track because it was simpler to attack the chicanes and didn't need the feel a driver normally needs on the pedals.
Given the advancements on the steering wheels and the talent Billy has shown it would be great to see him get a paid/professional drive eventually.

An absolutely incredible man.

Sad day but after the damage the fire caused to his lungs it's no surprise they eventually let him down.

It was his competition with James Hunt that got me into following F1.

RIP Niki a true legend of the sport.

I think that the 'engineer, risk/reward' side of him in Rush was a little over-exaggerated to have more of a contrast between him and James Hunt. He was married twice and had children in a relationship before his 1st marriage.

I wonder whether it was the accident that shortened his lifespan even all these years later, remember he was basically within an inch of passing away already then, especially with the lung issues he had last year :( 70 is way too young to go out.

Ruhe in Frieden, lieber Meister.

His impact on Ferrari's history will never be forgotten. Had it not been for Nürburgring, he'd been the Schumacher of the 70's also in terms of Ferrari titles won. That really changed everything.

RIP and much love. Vielen dank.

It was. His lungs were severly injured during the accident. He had a lung transplant late last year. Sad as it is, he was so so lucky to survive the accident and live this long

It really puts into perspective how unbelievable his final two world titles were. He must've been at a really severe disadvantage strength and stamina-wise, yet somehow managed to drive those physical cars that also required three pedal and gearshift coordination that fast over even longer race times than nowadays. For some drivers, their world title numbers deceive in terms of just how good they were. Namely, Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna, Fernando Alonso and Niki Lauda. All of them had drivers they raced against win more titles than them. Still, all of those four could easily have won seven titles had their cards fallen their way.

There was always going to be some artistic licence, it was a film after all.

I guess the crash did kill him eventually, he just told it to fuck off for almost 43 years.

Not bad.
