Notwithstanding that we're shite, if we can get into a position where we could lose to Utd and drop a couple of points to Everton and STILL be ahead City then, well, songs might be written...

Course it won't happen because we're wham and City are a sure thing

I don't get why people even look at last season's form in the title, City had won it already by this time last year. This is a completely different story for them and us. Once the CL begins things will hot up and I certainly wouldn't dismiss the chance of them losing some more points (or us for that matter).  Let's just see what happens.

I agree, they had no pressure on them and were just cruising to the title.

This year if we keep winning they'll have to respond in kind which could see them drop even fewer points.  I talked about this in another post, where often in Europe when you have 2 teams that are this good and close in points going into the final run in, they drop very points at all as it almost becomes life or death for their challenge.

Getting worried about that Leicester game already. Vardy always seems to score against us and Joe Go is still injured. Leicester are always a bit of a bogey team and it’s not that long since they beat the greatest ever premier league team. Got a bad feeling about this one and losing sleep.

My concern is being a bit lacking in match sharpness after the break.

Not sure if this the right place but thought it would be nice to document our amazing league season to date, it's unlike anything we've experienced in 20 years and only rivalled by 87/88 over the last 40 years.

Liverpool league statistics after 23 games:

LAST 20 YEARS
Our points range: 29-48 (this season 60)
Wins: 8-14 (this season 19)
Losses: 10-2 (this season 1)
Draws: 10-4 (3)
Goals for: 28-57 (2014) (this season 57)
Goals against: 32-15 (this season 13)
Top of the table points after 23 games (45-62 - 2018 and 2006)

LAST 40 YEARS
Our points range: 29-59 (87/88) (this season 60)
Wins: 8-18 (87/88) (this season 19)
Losses: 10-0 (87/88) (this season 1)
Draws: 11-3 (3)
Goals for: 27-57 (2014 and 87/88) (this season 57)
Goals against: 37-11 (87/88) (this season 13)
Top of the table points after 23 games (43-62 - 2018 and 2006)

As a reminder our 87/88 team included: Grobbelaar, Gillespie, Hansen, McMahon, Nicol, Whelan, Johnston, Houton, Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge - WOW, what a team!

Top of the table in previous years after 23 games: 62, 56, 47, 53, 53, 56, 54, 48, 53, 51, 53, 57 etc.

Has that last 40 years range taken into account that it was only 2 points for a win up until 1983?

Nonetheless, thank you, Rafa!

However, having said that, I don't think we can win tomorrow with such a depleted squad against a team that loves playing against the big guns. So, we'd most likely drop 2 or 3 pts in the APLT.

Careful, it's a fine line between mockers and reverse mockers.

At least it means we'll still have a minimum 4 point lead in the real table after tomorrow's match.

Current APLT numbers:

Liverpool: 7
City: -1
Spurs: -4
Chelsea: -11
United: -9
Arsenal: -11

Matchday 24:

Liverpool: 7 Leicester (H) Par 3 (Win 7, Draw 5, Lose 4)
City: -1 Newcastle (A) Par 1 (Win 1, Draw -1, Lose -2)
Spurs: -4 Watford (H) Par 3 (Win -4, Draw -6, Lose -7)
United: -9 Burnley (H) Par 3 (Win -9, Draw -11, Lose -12)
Chelsea: -11 Bournemouth (A) Par 1 (Win -9, Draw -11, Lose -12)
Arsenal: -11 Cardiff (H) Par 3 (Win -11, Draw -13, Lose -14)

City have a chance to gain APLT ground with a very winnable par 1. Liverpool must do the business at home with a relatively tricky par 3. Spurs and United can solidify themselves in the top 4 of the APLT with home wins against very beatable opposition. Chelsea have the change to gain back the APLT they lost the last game week with a win against Bournemouth. Arsenal must win at home to Cardiff to keep their top 4 hopes alive.

;D

Chance to increase the gap by a point tomorrow.  C'mon lads, don't mess it up!  (I know they will like, because that's how we roll.  Tragic to think of the points dropped tomorrow!)

Well, if we beat them there, then it’s a +2 for us, and so, a +3 relative to City anyway, so same thing!

Was a real chance for that line to turn upwards in a vertical direction towards us, so have to take the positives that they didn't take it. We need to do everything we can to keep our line away from a vertical slope ourselves tonight. Leicester are a solid team and shouldn't be underestimated. Not sure how to focus on anything else today in the lead up to this one.

That being said, when's the last time we won a game without Virgil? Real chance of that flu spreading through the team too. Hopefully we can keep it within a goal or two and see what happens final 5.

Current APLT numbers:

Liverpool: 5
City: -2
Spurs: -4
United: -11
Arsenal: -11
Chelsea: -11

Matchday 25:

Liverpool: 5 West Ham (A) Par 1 (Win 7, Draw 5, Lose 4)
City: -2 Arsenal (H) Par 3 (Win -2, Draw -4, Lose -5)
Spurs: -4 Newcastle (H) Par 3 (Win -4, Draw -6, Lose -7)
United: -11 Leicester (A) Par 1 (Win -9, Draw -11, Lose -12)
Arsenal: -11 City (A) Par 1 (Win -9, Draw -11, Lose -12)
Chelsea: -11 Huddersfield (H) Par 3 (Win -11, Draw -13, Lose -14)

Immediate chance to get our lost APLT points back at West Ham. A win would open up at least a 9 point APLT gap over city. Anything but a win for City will mean they're on a serious downward trend in the APLT and leaves them open to be caught by spurs. Spurs are still chipping away some decent results in the league and a win over Newcastle would keep them within sight of City. United are well and truly in the race for the top 4 now with their game away at Leicester a chance for them to be ahead of their rivals in the APLT. Arsenal have some what of a free hit a City but a win would put them in a good position for that 4th spot and might be needed should United beat Leicester. Chelsea are in free fall and anything but a win for them this weekend and you wouldn't bet on them getting a top 4 spot. Mad to think they were talked about as title contenders at one stage this season.

I never took them as title contenders seriously. They didn't have the goals in the team. Now Morata has gone and they have Higuain we'll have to see if they start scoring, but it's big ask of a 31 year old, used to the Italian league, to score big in the Premier League.

The players also seem to be responding to Sarri in the same way they responded to Morinho in his last season with them, and Sarri seems to be treating his players the same as Morinho. Actually, they went through the same thing with Conti.

Chelsea's season breaks down fairly neatly in half at this point.
First twelve games: W8 D4 L0, 3rd in the league, 4 points off the top.
Last 12 games: W6 D1 L5, 7th in the league and 12 points off the top for this period (and as an aside, Liverpool are W10 D1 L1 and top for the last 12 games).
