We need to take the sting out of the game in first 15 mins. Take ages with goal kicks, throw ins etc.

Then once they have cooled off and the realisation sets in we bash three goals in and march on to the semis.

Unlike them, we have a lot of famous comebacks in our history, especially in Europe. I think they'll score a couple but they won't be reaching the five needed once we score.

Fuck that..we aint chelsea or the mancs!!We dont need to do anything different than what we have done all season.Pep changed his formation slightly on wed and didnt suit them.Im sure Klopp will set us up to take the game to them again all guns blazing, its worked twice now so no point fannying about with a different tactic.

For those who have played the game professionally- is it possible to completely treat this as a one off game that we need to win ourselves to go through or will that lead to errors and nervousness?

If we go toe to toe with them, do we have the stamina to outlast them considering how psychologically and physically taxing their game was against us and United?

Pep said that big teams remain calm in adversity...'smoke a cigar' while hell breaks loose around them (that's why they lost- his players were smoking cigars while we were trying to win a match)- will he adopt this approach for Tuesday and will they throw caution to the wind?

How do we counter their fast start? How do we prepare for a more patient approach from them. One thing is for certain- they can't resort to launching it because our big centre-halves will gobble everything up.

Will they play for free-kicks, penalties and corners? Professionals and former professionals, how do you prepare for all these scenarios?

KDB was involved with very little and walker didn't play last Saturday so I expect them to be raring to go.

Sane on the other hand looked exhausted and short of confidence after being repeatedly repelled by TAA. Silva looked mentally exhausted too after a long season which included a League cup win.

Having said that, it is not the time for Gini to switch off when he comes in for Henderson.

Ings, Solanke and Moreno should be used late in the match to commit some fouls at their end of the pitch to disrupt their rhythm.

It's going to be tempting to try and hold on to what we've got but we just aren't good at that, obviously there will be times where we'll have to defend in numbers and slow the game down, but we can't just surrender the initiative otherwise they'll just pick us apart. The reason we (and United) had success against them was putting them under pressure when they had the ball, and putting their defence under pressure when we had the ball...we have to do that again, we can't be passive. I worry that we'll get sucked into trying to just defend our lead, if they score early it could get very uncomfortable for us. Obviously we're capable of scoring there, but I don't want us to need to score there.

I think people need to remember we're up by 3, even if they beat us 2-0 we're through.   :wave

But if they're 2-0 up with the last 15-20 minutes to go and we're all gassed out, who would a neutral put money on?

I wouldn't want to be in that situation. I hope we (Klopp, staff and the players) treat this as a 0-0 and try to get a draw or a win.

City has to score while also ensuring that they do not concede. They will not be able to do both at the same time. Walker is likely to remain the last man to defend against our front 3 due to his pace and this will blunt the right side of City's attack. Sterling or Gundogan can't do it all by themselves.

The break of pace from Ox in the middle could potentially be our match winner once more.

This is all true, I just hope we don't allow ourselves to be pinned back, we need to treat it like a league game and not one that we're already 3-0 up in.

Exactly this. We've got the game plan down pat to beating these. Let's not sit off them too much. I'd hate to see us play like that eg. v Spurs 2nd half at Anfield, and invite them on for the full match. Let's just be composed on the ball and eek out the chances in attack and try to get a goal or two.

I don't expect us to change the way we approach this game. I don't expect that Klopp will try to defend the lead, we don't have that in our DNA and it's impossible against a City side that dominate the ball. It's why Klopp was furious in the 2nd half as we didn't play football.

We will play exactly the same and so will they. They may change the formation, Guardiola will probably play with two up front and both Sane and Sterling from the get go, but they are vulnerable when they have to defend.

All of those who are going, watch yourselves. There is talk of reprisals from what their lot deem as kick off on their team and fans. So be safe and be clued up - ESPECIALLY: those who have tickets in their end. They're looking for an excuse, give them fuck all and be safe.

Approach the game like it's 0-0 and go for the away goal that will kill the tie off.

Mourinho did us a massive favour, and I'll admit, that was probably the first time I actually wanted United to win against an opponent.
City returned home after our 3-0 battering with their stubborness and pride already working on recovering their momentum.
A few days later, and the 0-3 deficit had become simply a "bad 45 mins", or "a small blip". They were storming through the league, winning at home, and bar the two away games against us, were looking near on invincible. Win against United and they would be hosting us as the newly crowned League champions, having cemented the title in front of their fans and against their biggest opponents. They would have strolled into their match against us on a high, with their sole energy focused on beating us.

Instead, the worst that could have happened, did. 2-0 lead, on the verge of confirming themselves as champs with the added bonus of thrashing United at home, they bottled it. In fact, they bottled it when there really wasn't that much pressure on them. They simply stopped playing for another half of football and once United got the momentum, City just weren't up for the fight. They blew a 2-0 lead that would have cemented their trophy in front of their fans. And they did it against their biggest rivals. A few days after getting a drubbing by us in Europe. A few days from facing us in Europe.

Two matches, against two rivals, in two very important moments of the season, and in both games they conceded 3 goals in a 45 minute period. How confident must they feel that they won't concede a goal during the nxt 90 mins? Just as importantly, how confident will their fans feel? They could rack up a 3 goal lead and still be feeling the nerves, almost anticipating the inevitable blitz heading their way. Cheers Mourinho, you whiney, narcissistic, bugger.

As for us, one goal will do. Even the threat of one goal will do. Thankfully, we don't even have to play defensive. Just play our game, pressure high, quick transitions, and capitalise on their absolute imperative need to score. I actually think the first 45 mins will be more important than the last 45 mins. If we can keep them at a distance, or even score a goal, we'll leave them going gung ho attacking wise in the 2nd half, which will only serve to play into our hands.

Let's just hope our key players are healthy. The midfield trio of Milner, Wijnaldum, and Ox, will be an interesting one to see in combo. Though I think the way Robertson and Trent cope with the wingers might be the key difference in the game. Hopefully Salah is fit and starting as that changes the whole complexion of our attacking threat. We became a different team after he went off.

How wonderful it is. After all these years, we're one game away from the semi finals, holding a 3-0 goal advantage.
How I've missed these sorts of pressure games under the night lights.

I don't think Klopp will tell them to just sit on the lead, but the team sometimes has a tendency to end up doing this when we're ahead, despite what Klopp tells them to do (see Spurs in the league). Problem with City is they can score goals in rapid succession,  if we sit too deep we could surrender our lead pretty quickly, the damage could be done before Klopp has the chance to get them playing properly. There will obviously be times when they have a lot of possession, but we have to be constantly hassling them and forcing mistakes like we did in the 1st leg.

Hope we start quickly and get an early goal, then we can relax a bit!

Doesn't matter that we're ahead, this will be drilled into their heads by now it's a new match, you can't defend for ninety minutes against a City side and play like that, sitting deep, it doesn't work nor will we do it. We will play the same way we did in the first leg. We'll have to defend well, but our aim will be to counter press, they will attack so we don't have to worry about opportunities on when to counter press, the situation forces City to attack.

I dont get how they would qualify for tickets

I got mine from City via a friends and family scheme.  Remember a few years ago when Kuyt got a late winner there, a few weeks before the game I bought a City fan card then got match tickets direct.
They constantly have to advertise on local radio to sell tickets.

Thanks BabuYagu.

This is obviously our biggest game of the season so far and although we are in a great position it's not over.

No doubt City will try to attack right from the off which may leave space for Salah, Mane and Firmino.

The other tactic that City may use if they don't get an early goal is to move the ball around quickly and hope that we tire late on.

For us we need to be at our best and keep them out. It may be important to score an away goal or maybe 2.

In the first game they tired knocking diagonal balls to Sane and I expect them to try this again and so our right back will be tested.

I don't think that for once I'm going to enjoy this game as any result is possible. Let's just hope that we score two early goals and then go for a scrappy game. If City score an early goal then we could start to get the jitters. I expect that we will be under a lot of pressure for long periods of the game and it could be a tough game. It all depends on whether we put our chances away.

Irrespective, we have thrown down a marker to say that we are a very god cup team.
