I think when we struggle it’s when sides are ready to play quick/risky triangles round our press and it’s usually a first time almost blind pop-off ball onto a runner round the pressing man. It’s tricky and demands massive quality and mobility in the middle of the park.

It’s a bit different to Man City but Man U at the weekend basically replayed our game plan from the CL away two seasons ago. Turning/playing out of the press in the DM position, then diagonals or direct longer balls up into the channels. Take out the tactical fouler (and press) basically, rather than take out the press.

With the new kit deal giving us a sizeable chunk of kit sales (which is very unusual), this might be the first time that shirt sales have come close to paying for a transfer.

Yes, apparently Brewster and Jones will both be loaned.

Kinda in the Keita role. I'm not sure what his defending is like but attacking wise he would be very good pinging balls between him and the front 3. He could step in for Mane or Salah too.

Looking at our first team and setting the bar very high then I think we are 3 or maybe 4 players short of "perfection".

One player who I rate highly is Koulibaly and if we could get him as well then we are pretty close to the dream team. I assume that Koulibaly would go for a world record fee for a defender but he is up there with VVD. Could they play together?

But we're getting into Fantasy Football here. We can't just go and spend record fees for players. We didn't do that for our front three or for Robbo or Matip or Gini and they have all been excellent.

Owners FSG are understood to have outlined a vision of the current squad winning the Premier League title this season and next before the rebuild gathers pace, during which time Klopp’s men finishing far lower down the table would be acceptable so long as the ultimate project remains on course.

By then, a lot of Liverpool’s key players will be moving into the latter part of their careers and already there are young talents and new signings being identified as potential successors.

On the same day as Klopp’s deal was announced, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard signed a new contract to keep him in charge of Rangers until 2024 and the parallels did not go unnoticed.

It is no secret that Gerrard and many at the club would like him to manage Liverpool one day and, while it may never happen, the subject is understood to have been discussed informally by all parties. Gerrard is thought to be in regular contact with Klopp and Liverpool’s leadership.
