Needs to step up. He's the one who can sort our shitty defense out.

He plays like making a tackle and getting his knees dirty is somehow beneath him.

He seems to be strolling round the pitch functioning at 50% of his capability. Looks like the passion and drive has deserted him.  Really want him to look angry on the pitch.

At his best he made his defensive partner also look world class. Not only is he not doing that but looking massively vulnerable himself.

Still disagree however with anyone that says he’s got one eye on the World Cup. You’d be questioning the man’s integrity.

not sure how else you explain that effort to block the shot for the winning goal tonight.

I think his positioning and awareness is off. He was never someone to fly into last ditch tackles, he was just in the right spot and there was no way past him.

He missed the last Euros through injury didn't he? This will be his last world cup as well

Not saying he's playing bad on purpose. He's just thinking twice before taking a risky stride or challenge

Then drop him.

He was imperious versus City but doesn’t look arsed most the time. That’s a give concern.

Totally agree.  Love to see the km stats for yesterday.  Gomez is rightly getting some stick on here but he looked like he ran at least double what VVD did.
Look up "Odious" in the dictionary and Martin Samuel is the given definition.  Call me Klopphooey please.

All those years people were saying he doesn’t break a sweat

He had the midfield as his filter

He’s now taking on direct hits non stop same with Trent.

They aren’t superhuman.

We need midfielders who are going to do the work. Some want to but can’t anymore, some are thinking about the World Cup and some plain old don’t have the athleticism

Of course our midfield is a big problem, but it doesn't mean he is let off from basic defending.
Like Fab he doesnt know whether to stick or twist, both are so far from their normal level it's scary.

That might be the peak of RAWK. Maybe even surpassing ‘who the fuck is Baldrick?’ and ‘I heard it from a wrestler called Chris Jericho’
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

He needs to be more aggressive. Comes across as too nice to play against and is not closing down enough.

Decision not to close down Sissoko worked in that moment against Spurs but he has got to close down more often this season.

I’ve heard rumours long ago that not every goal is a monumental fuck up from an individual and sometimes just a good bit of football from the opposition
