Strangely cheered by this. I think it’s because Utd are the one club who might have some grasp of what actually happened last night. The others probably think it’s like a slightly bigger version of that time when Spurs beat Real Madrid, rather than being another type of thing entirely.
I definitely agree with this. As much as I hated United having all the success they had in the 90s onwards, I could also respect it because as a Liverpool fan I saw what it took to achieve what we did it. It took the determination, the drive, the passion and the skills of a great man to kickstart what eventually became the most successful English team. I/we also saw what it took for other great men to continue building on his legacy. Basically, it's a monumental job, and Liverpool fans knew all too well what it takes.
United fans also know what it takes, how hard it is to build and how difficult it is to maintain, due to their successful period under Ferguson. If anyone should 'get' what happened last night and the gravity of it, it should be them. Compare that to comments in a different thread where a stupid Everton fan reckoned Barcelona were so bad that even Everton would have beaten them last night.
Some people can get it; some don't have the first clue.
