The Utd fans on the other (non-football) forums I use are all taking it pretty well too, they can see what a monumental effort it was and there's respect for what we achieved.  Suspect that there's no Everton fans with similar views.

It's a real deep rivalry between us and them, not like the one that Abu Dhabi is trying to manufacture. There's a certain amount of begrudging respect there for the football team, just as I have to admit that the Ferguson era was incredible. What they're seeing in us is what they experienced back then. A powerhouse of a manager and a talented team who just don't know how to give up.

They'll enjoy laughing at us if we don't win a trophy and we'll enjoy laughing that them if... well, actually, we'll just enjoy laughing at them for the foreseeable future.

I say this with the upmost respect to Fergie. If they re-appointed him to sort out this mess I genuinely believe it would kill him. Can you imagine him having to deal with some of the lazy chancers in that dressing room?

Note: I know their problems are partially due to Fergie, in-directly, since they relied on him too much and had no transition plan plus allowed the squad to become total shit since he was carrying them. But watching the state of them now must hurt.

I definitely agree with this. As much as I hated United having all the success they had in the 90s onwards, I could also respect it because as a Liverpool fan I saw what it took to achieve what we did it. It took the determination, the drive, the passion and the skills of a great man to kickstart what eventually became the most successful English team. I/we also saw what it took for other great men to continue building on his legacy. Basically, it's a monumental job, and Liverpool fans knew all too well what it takes.

United fans also know what it takes, how hard it is to build and how difficult it is to maintain, due to their successful period under Ferguson. If anyone should 'get' what happened last night and the gravity of it, it should be them. Compare that to comments in a different thread where a stupid Everton fan reckoned Barcelona were so bad that even Everton would have beaten them last night.    Some people can get it; some don't have the first clue.

I agree. There's no way they'll bin him in the summer. They'll give him at least 1 transfer window and 1 full season.

It is still too early to tell whether Ole is the right manager for United or not, he hasn't even bought in one single player yet. We all know United's problem is far bigger that the manager himself, their owner, chairman, players and fans are horribly bad. I hate United and wish they keep falling down but I also feel sad for the United fan who turn on Ole so quick and ask for his head just because they had a bad run recently. I think Ole deserve at least a single summer to organise him team. Whether the United board would support him with enough money, is another story though.
