Its all about winning shiny things.
Just seems odd to me that it was never built that way in the first place.
A lot of cost for very little gain, in my opinion. I appreciate a good job was done incorporating the existing MS into the new main stand but don't believe the same rule should apply to the Kop - unless it significantly increases capacity and improves sight lines and accessibility for fans.I'd sooner see an enhanced purpose built Anny Road end to deliver increased capacity. As or when permission is granted to look at the Kop end it should be done without the make do and mend philosophy that we currently have. It's not like its a historic structure or anything - that went 20-odd years ago.
Though good we're getting more fans on the Kop
There'll be less
How do you work that out mate?
They are putting disabled seats in where 109 is currentlyGraham Smith is saying its a slight decrease
So they'll only be less if disabled supporters don't count as people. Right.
It is not being extended it is being reduced in size.Disabled bays coming in means a loss of seats. Some 'new' seats being created but they will not replace the number being lost.
The last I was told is a net loss in both stands - the plans were developing though so we'll see.But that's the current state of knowledge.
Is there a reason they're not extending the main stand side of The Kop back as far as the central rows? Could be close to a thousand extra seats there and they wouldn't hand over the WBR
Cost per seat I imagine, they would probably have to extend the concourse and put in extra entrances, 301-303. Would involve building up supports from ground level too.
OK. It's been discussed on here before somewhere. You're right you could square it off on that side and get some extra seats in. You could also square off the other side if it cantilevered over the road. I did a bit of modelling to show how that might work a while back. I don't know what the cost would be but it's probably one of the easier options for squeezing a few more seats in if there's demand after the current redevelopment. It's a standalone piece of work though so there's no great benefit in doing if now and complicating the logistics of a tight site that has tens of thousands of supporters walking through it on a regular basis.
The truth of it is that you're losing 115 seats in 109 and gaining 235 seats in 202 and 235 in 208 which is a net gain of 355 seats in the KOP.Will it make a difference to the atmosphere in the KOP.........probably not .If you want to be really pedantic you could say that in reality 109 was originally and still feels more like part of the Centenary. It was only made part of the KOP on safety grounds as far as I'm aware.
Yea mate just put your sky box on top of the fridge, put an egg in the microwave then wave your satalite dish around on the roof worked for me lad.
Any idea if they have started on the Kop alterations yet?
started just over a week ago, last time I went past they had removed some of the tin cladding to expose the steel work that isn't normally visible.
As of yesterday, as Paul says, all they've done so far is remove some of the exterior cladding, to expose the steelwork. The fact that there doesn't seem to be much going on, might mean that some steelwork MAY BE being fabricated, off site.
So they're just extending back so it's no longer staggered?
The pictures in the 2nd post in this thread show you exactly what they are doing.
With the reduced over hang of the roof and the straightening of the back of the Kop will this have a detrimental effect on the sound generated and focused towards the pitch?
I fucking hate the shitty quotes and photo opportunities that they tack onto the ground. It's meant to be a fortress not fucking Disney land.
I am all for authoritarian rule
Moving on slowly.
Loving this, sure to improve the ambiance. Light, airy, spacious and a magnificent view down the Walton Breck - brings a whole new feel to the Kop.
Really.... its a few hundred seats..... not going to make any difference at all.
United used to win titles on easy street, time for us to take over that real estate
