Of course we do. But it doesn't change the fact that he's a £100m+ asset that we are potentially losing for nothing. It's not as if we're a club that regularly splashes the cash either.

Agreed.

Why wasn't a contract signed last year? Either party must have not wanted it to happen.

he will leave
all he mentions about being remembered for is winning trophies every year doesny want to be remembered for winning trophies as a young player
No mention of Liverpool at all

The interviewer didn't ask him a single question about Liverpool. And he wasn't even wearing Liverpool kit! It's almost as if the interview wasn't about him as a Liverpool player but actually about him as a player for some other team.

The only conceivable explanation is that he has already checked out and is trying to completely blank all memory of playing for Liverpool, right?

Honestly. You people.

I see BBC have opened a Have Your Say to discuss the burning question: is this man who scored a worldie a good player, or is Roy Keane correct that he's a defensive liability and all-round piece of crap? Gee, I wonder how that's going! Replies read: 0.

he was asked about the future
he said most important was winning trophies whilst being heavily linked to a club who win the biggest trophy regularly i.e Real.
unlike Salah & VVD he hasnt given any indication he wants to stay.
I dont think it is looking good at all.
Good friends with Bellingham & also Carajval out long term

If he does leave to Real i dont think in fairness to Trent it will be primarly money.
I think we actually can at least offer the same wages per week its would be more so the chance at trophies at Real & the prestige of playing with them

he was asked about the future

In the specific context of playing for England.

That interview really has nothing to do with Liverpool or his future at the club (I’m guessing he was under specific instructions to only talk about England). You’re just looking for reasons to be pessimistic.

Quote
he hasnt given any indication he wants to stay.

He recently said he wants to be Liverpool captain one day. Can’t do that if he’s playing for Madrid.

Just a perfectly normal situation, where a full-back gets Man of the Match in 3 out of 4 England games, and afterwards the media want to question whether he is even capable of playing there.

After over 300 games, and every major club trophy going.

Yup, it's utterly mental, and a handful of these "pundits" are to blame for constantly pushing their agenda driven nonsense about him.

He's held to an impossible standard because he doesn't fit into the round hole people want to peg him into.

Good friends with Bellingham

I don't buy this, so what?  Would he not want to go to Real if Bellingham didn't play there?

He has good friends he plays with at Liverpool, you could argue more good friends.

These good friends didn't play together at club level...

I thought he liked Robbo has he been downgraded in Trents friendship group. I thought Trent was supposed to be convincing Jude to join us a couple of windows ago. What's going on? Nobody friended Zubi that was the issue too.

Yeah it's pretty obvious this will be announced at some point that he's joined Real, the silence is deafening and it makes no sense that he hasn't signed. He's likely just refused a new contract because his heads been turned by the Madrid PR machine, it's how they do it.

Personally, I think silence is a good thing. It tends to suggest that both sides are willing to negotiate. There is no indication that it has reached the stage at which Trent has had the opportunity to sign anything or has rejected an offer.

For me if anything had been rejected or the club had refused to make an offer then we would have heard about it. Both sides would have gone into damage limitation mode and we would have had leaks from the usual suspects.

Three comparable scenarios we had in recent years were Mane, Wijnaldum and Can. They followed a similar trend where it was basically radio silence until the season was out and it was revealed they'd signed contracts elsewhere.

Salah in 2022 was fairly similar in that there was lots of external noise about him potentially not renewing, fans losing their heads and suddenly signs a new deal without warning.

How long did he have left in comparison to Trent though?  That's the biggest indicator for me, we're halfway through October and there's no noise about him re-signing.  Seems pretty obvious he's leaving at the end of this season.
