That Giuliano guy is a beast, 5 goals and 5 assists in 4 Europa League games. Great signing by Lucescu.

Was just looking at the Inter team we beat 2-0 in the CL in 2008.

Julio Cesar, Maicon, Cordoba (Burdisso 75), Materazzi, Chivu, Zanetti, Stankovic, Cambiasso, Maxwell, Cruz (Vieira 55), Ibrahimovic.

Subs Not Used: Toldo, Figo, Crespo, Maniche, Suazo.

Compare that to what they have now.

Inter Milan score against the run of play. Southampton had been dominating.

No else heard Michael Owen's little rant about "Why even have walls on free kicks from that distance?"?!

Saints v Inter quite tasty - for all the wrong reasons.

Standard of officiating piss poor.

Van Dijk, as I've previously noted, is a very good signing for Saints. I think he's a very good footballer in addition to being a solid defender. And he's quick and powerful.

Mourinho is putting the blame squarely on the players: “I think they deserved to win. Football is not just about quality, it’s also about effort, commitment, playing to the limits and giving everything. A team that concedes a goal after two minutes is a team that is not ready, not prepared, not concentrated .. it’s our fault. After their second goal we had a reaction but we didn’t deserve more because football is 90 minutes and it is to be played at the maximum of your desire, concentration and capacity ... At the start it was like they were playing the Champions League final and we were playing a sumer friendly. That’s the reality.”

Losing the dressing room already :lmao
As much as Mourinho is a twat and all, I think there's something or some "element" in that dressing room that's partly responsible for some of what's been happening with this lot- and I love it! Personally think Rooneh and the old guard's got a big hand in that and long may it continue.
A player with a temper to rival Ferguson, brooding and hanging around the offices and the training ground while all his mates follow his lead... Forced down to a contract because of a sponshorship deal and he HAS to play, even though it's clear you can kick that dog and all he'll do is squeeze off a fart and then doze off. Then you've got the other Ferguson-infected lot- the Pogba's, Valencias, Young's etc...

It's now the 3rd manager since Ferguson that's pissed off at the players. Mourinho just moans about it more than the others.

I hope Southampton win this competiton. It's unlikely I know, but the notion of them being in the Champion's League just after Koeman jumped ship to Everton would be beautifully sweet!

Charlie Austin looks like a throwback from the early '70s - he has the same build as Micky Quinn.

I mean the current Micky Quinn...

2009/10- Southampton finish 7th in League 1. Inter Milan win the Champions League.

2016/17- Southampton thoroughly outplay Inter Milan over 2 games in Europe's secondary competition.

Mad how much can change in just 5 or 6 seasons.

Van Dijk MOTM. He's one of the best CB's in the league. If we ever do improve on Lovren, he wouldn't be half bad to partner our Joel.

I hope you're not suggesting we buy another player from Southampton, the transfer thread would collapse in on itself.

Delighted to see Southampton embracing the Europa League and not giving it the treatment, some of the other English sides have done in the past.

Would love too see them have a deep run in the tournament and reach the quarters or semis.

That was a brilliant night for us. Mancs players were all going crazy with our OoooLLeeeeee chants... :)

By the way, i am so lucky to watch another Liverpool legend in Fenerbahce.

He is getting use to the team and playing without any error in last 3 games.

Jose, Ibra and Wayne... All of them sucked last night. :D
