It's completely different - the Echo Arena is thousands watching on a screen. The Anfield event is a Match Day Hospitality style thing in The Reds Suite with drinks, free buffet, pictures with the European Cup and a 'meet and greet' with Phil Neal.

Seems like nitpicking to me. All the players will be thinking that this is their chance to turn a bad season into a great one. Give their great cup run the ending it deserves. Runners up would be no consolation to them.

He is just using a typical cliche..but one that is apt. Its been a difficult year, we expected to be better than our league position but the EL has given us a chance to gloss over it. Just like Istanbul did....but on a larger scale.

We been in 2 cup finals after being in 1 in the previous 8 years since the 2007 CL final. We would have easily made at least 5th if we were not playing an u21 teams pretty regulary in the last 6 weeks.

I have no issue with his quote. It's true. If we win the tournament we will have had a great cup run and secured champions league football. The league season was poor but objectively speaking, the season would have been saved. If we lose, we will have come 8th in the league and have no success to speak of, barring a few great memories from some great games (which were ultimately in vain) - not a good season.

Mignolet is complete right. Winning the cup saves the season.

The only potential problem is that he has the "fear of failure" mentality rather than "chance of success" mentality. But really, what does it matter? You can't change the way you think overnight.

Much more important things to think about than massively over-analysing a quote.
