Not really, he's a Liverpool player now so people are getting behind him - whether they wanted him to sign or not.

All the moaners demanding Orwellian positivity in the other thread didn't seem to be able to grasp that people can not rate a player but will get behind them when they have a Liverpool shirt on their backs.

All the "this fanbase is shite" or "Benteke has no chance here with c*nts like this lot" comments were way wide of the mark and resulted from people throwing the proverbial toys out of their prams.

Call me pessimistic, he's a decent striker but I don't see how he fits into our manager's philosophy of fluidity and movement, i feel that a partnership of balo and chris would be too static and easy to man mark, especially with Benteke's movement coupled with Mario "too-boss-to-track-back" Balotelli's workrate and general attitude, i cannot tell how it would turn out if he partners with sturridge but if he can keep fit and somehow get on eachother's wavelength then it might work.

looking at this post a good name for you would be 'Call me Pessimistic ' go on mods work your magic

Welcome to Anfield Christian, it's the best club in the world.
You are not here to do what you can or what you have done; you are here to make what you never thought possible your normal level, and then to surpass it. [Having read that back I would be shocked if Brendan has not beaten me to saying it. Anyway, I like it.]
Just enjoy yourself, score loads of goals, play really well, and help us win nice shiny silver things, and we will all be happy.
Hope you become a great player here

Rodgers about Benteke:

"This is the first chance we've had to speak to you since you signed Christian Benteke, what do you think he can bring to the club?

There’s a number of qualities that he has and he will only improve in his time at the club. I think first and foremost his goals, if you look at his goals record since the time that he’s been in the Premier League he's up there with the best in terms of numbers. So that was very important for us. Obviously I've heard and I've seen stuff about the style, 'he won't fit the style of how we play' - I think he'll only complement it and help us. He’s a big guy but he’s got the attributes that I like in terms of pace and movement and he gets goals, he gets all types of goals. He's great in the air, strong, he can hold the game up, he can play on the counter-attack, he can play whenever the team is deep because he can hold the ball up with his physical strength. As I said, he's a boy that still is improving in his game so I don’t think there’s any doubt he'll fit our tactical idea of the game and he can be a huge player for us."

Just because he's a Liverpool player now, doesn't mean it was a good idea to spend £32.5m on him.

I'm fully supporting him to prove me wrong, hope that doesn't put me in the shite fan category.

I think it bears in mind saying that Liverpool do not buy world-class players, Liverpool make world-class players. We have several players right now who could make that leap. One of them could be Benteke, the goal record over 3 seasons speaks for itself. I think the issue is more how can Rodgers get the team or alternatively how can Benteke adjust to ensure he at least maintains that goal record with little or no detriment to the team. I personally don't know but would like find out. but I do not doubt that if we can still create the same amount of chances, and Benteke's goals per games ratio still remains the same everyone will be happy.

Also bears in mind saying that in 2013-2014, we got goals from everywhere, counter attacks, through passes, crosses, set pieces, corners, moments of brilliance... we could go direct or be patient and pass the ball around to wait for our chance, we were really not a one dimensional then as we were last season.. that's what made that team so dangerous and so difficult to defend against... so many ways we could score.

Part of the reason I'm happy to have him, is because we bought Firmino. For me, Sturridge and Firmino are still our 2 first choice forwards with Benteke a very good number 3. It just so turns out, that we're unlikely to ever play just Firmino up top, so, Benteke and Firmino becomes our "2nd choice" as a pair. Think he's a very good number 3

He gives us another option, which is very important. I remember watching us at times even when SAS where in full flow two seasons ago where we struggled to break down teams and were crying out for a presence in the box.

I'm hoping Christian will occupy the minds of a couple of defenders, we really lacked that last season and it hindered us. We we're too predictable, wasn't strong enough, good enough movement and such, but having a unit in there like him your always gonna draw players towards him, opening space for the likes of coutinho, firmino etc. Hopefully!

Certainly, he'll also make teams push up and leave space in behind for Coutinho and Firmino to thread balls into. No team is going to want Benteke in the box they'll push up to keep that threat at bay.
