Best midfield header of the ball bar none. Great awareness and interceptions. Recycles endlessly, contrasts well with decisive vertical passes to the Magician.

Give him a raise to play one game in four.

Fucking chuffed he's staying. He's proven countless times how important he is to this football club and i have no doubt he'll have plenty more great moments for us.

He'll continue be one of the smartest brains & most disciplined players in the team if he gets game time.

He's the type of player that we've always had and will always need - no matter what technical innovations there are in the game.
'You think you're having it tough??' Think about Lucas.
'You think you don't need to work?' Look at Lucas.
'Injuries are difficult and the work is hard - you need inspiration?' Look at Lucas.

Get him on the pitch more often and give him the armband: He's got plenty left to offer.

Just re quoting myself now for a reminder that even a bust clock gets it right once in a while.. Though tbf I think we all (well almost all) knew this to be the case.
I'm delighted that Jürgen has had the sense to restore him to the team. When Henderson returns they'll be a great pairing imo, just a pity that he can't hold the captain's armband for a year or two before handing it on to the younger man.
He's more than earned the right and it sends the right message about genuine character.

Seeing him with Klopp after the Tranmere match I had a quick thought that Lucas will be with LIverpool for some time yet. Or that at least he will be offered the opportunity. Now that Kolo has gone Lucas may well become Klopp's 'senior player' in the squad - someone who commands respect among the players, who has a first-class football brain, and someone the manager can trust when options start to run thin because of injury etc

I'd have thought, going by selection patterns and transfer rumours around his position(s), not to mention the non-extension of his contract, that he'd be gone by the end of this window. He's probably played himself out of his preferred midfield position, and while he still offers a highly specialised role as facilitator of young players, is Klopp going to keep a place in the squad for that? He's in a position that you'd be comfortable offering rolling 1 year extensions to if he were 5 years older, but is he going to be satisfied with that role?

When does Lucas' contract expire? There's news about Lucas talking about Klopps contract, but I've seen nothing about him going beyond next year.

The fees being spoken about are just taking the piss.

I would be made up if he signed a new deal. Testimonial next season ? We need his experience at the club, plus let's not forget, he can still do a job.

Faithful servant rather than legend, which overstates him. Perfect example for incoming and young players, but not really the success that warrants that label. I think that, an initial burst aside, he played himself out of the midfield last season, and he's only going to be playing the Toure role this season, if he's still here at the end of the window. Geeing the other players up, especially those who are new or inexperienced, and offering a degree of stability at the back. I wouldn't be surprised if Benitez tries to get him before the window closes. I would certainly be surprised if Lucas gets a new contract to extend him past this season.

I remember someone on this site, someone who knows their onions like garstonite or yorkie or albie, writing about Lucas and saying something like, "when he's on the pitch and the opposition has the ball and are attacking, I always automatically look to see where Lucas is...and if he's somewhere inbetween the opposition player in possession of the ball and our goalkeeper (as he usually is), then I can sit back and relax". It's not an exact quote, but the implication was that it was only once they got goalside of Lucas Leiva was there any chance of them scoring.

I took this idea into many matches after I'd read it and you know what, it was absolutely spot on and made for a much more relaxing match-going experience!
