Psychological? In fairness Bairstow did pretty well v the Aussies - better than a host of other more established batsmen. And Lyth did get a ton v NZ! As for Ballance's Test average.....it's ok isn't it?

They did. And I'm being unfair, can only beat what's in front of you and can't expect to be facing many 90+mph bowlers in the County game.

Lancs 251/8

2nd batting bonus point so two more points needed to keep the Welsh hordes at bay and secure promotion.

185/4 now. Croft and Davies have put on 47 in 31 overs. Top digging.

I think Surrey are now top, but a Draw here will secure promotion. Think we still have Surrey to play too.

Basically Surrey have relied for any success they've had over the years on Yorkshiremen. Jim Laker for example.

We shouldn't be greedy though. There's always been an excess of talent in the Broad Acres. Glen Chapple for example - who I believe is the captain of a county called Lancashire.

So Gareth Batty was born in Bradford, eeh ba gum who'd have thought it.  there's me trying to find tenuous links to Yorkshire using an ex-Leeds United player - i didn't need to

Your Wisden's a bit out of date then! Fair swap for that Mancunian preening wide boy who ruins TMS these days (but was a handy enough batsman and captain so I'll let him off!).

Yorkshire have imported foreign talents in the past as well, such as Michael Vaughan.

It's an interesting point though and got me wondering where the hotbeds of local cricket are. Just looking at the Lancs team playing at the moment and weirdly there are 4 towns that provide 2 players apiece in the current set up. All familiar Red Rose production lines:

Blackpool
Bolton
Preston
Port Elizabeth

Aye, but when Michael was first conscious of being "Michael" and responded from his pram with a happy gurgle he was already a Yorkshireman. The first word he learnt after "mummy" and "dada" was "Sheffield".

Great effort from Croft and Davies! Promotion and a T20 trophy, decent enough season!
