They need to rebuild, and Jose tends to spend big on immediate success, often not considering the future of the club he manages, because he doesn’t like to hang around too long.

Levy regularly declined Poch money to add to his squad, backed out of transfers when the prices got too high and was an all round mingebag, whilst Jose will be constantly harrassing him for another £50m, 28-yr old defensive midfielder or centre back to help truly perfect his brand of joyless, eye gouging anti-football.

As a casual observer that just seems like the general career trends of those two people. Maybe it will work out, and if Levy really wants him he might be willing to change his tune. What do I know though? I’m just a fan.

Fucking Jose again, keeps coming back like a bad penny. I was hoping he’d sod off for good and work abroad.

Mourinho and Levy seems like a recipe for disaster. A manager who could spend £20m on a ballboy and Levy, who’s tighter than a ducks arse.

Yep. And with their stadium debt and need to replace Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld next summer, they'll be butting heads straightaway. I imagine Levy is panicking over possibly missing out on the CL and is going for a 'sure thing'

I've never had any interest in Spurs so I'm not exactly clued-up on them, but tonight's news has surprised me. I know they are still suffering a hangover from Madrid, but I never expected them to sack Pochettino. Considering they have spent about £2.50 they've done remarkably well, I think. From here, it looks really odd if they bring Mourinho in. The club that doesn't spend, bringing in one of the biggest chequebook managers of all time.  :o  Surely after blowing a billion on the stadium they aren't in any position to suddenly decide to blow the cash. Also, if they now are willing/able to spend big, why not give the cash to the guy whose done so well for them with peanuts?

Their form has been grim for a while now, it's a big gamble either way but with what they've invested in the ground they really can't afford to let it continue much longer, in 2019 we've taken 37 more points than them over 30 games, they've won 11 and lost 12, for all the gushing about Pochettino that's pretty shite, even Everton, Newcastle & Palace have better league records in 2019

Yeah, 40 points from 30 games this year, that's like getting to the back end of March and finally getting enough points to avoid relegation ;D

It’s a strange one assuming it happens.

Mourinho going into a club with issues in the dressing room seems weird, given in recent times he tends to exacerbate those.. Plus he generally moans if he doesn’t get money to spend.
However he does win trophies, and at a club like Spurs who haven’t won anything of any significance for a long time, a domestic cup or a Europa League would be more than acceptable I’d imagine for a fair amount of their fans and Levy.

Long term we know he never does more than 3 years max so it’s a short term fix that could work

Wish Mourinho would leave this league once and for all. Once again we’ve got to endure his attention seeking. How long until he does his pathetic move for the cameras of leaving the pitch before the game is over?

Not a fan of Spurs anyway, but I hope they fail big time now.

Levy will promise Mourinho money to spend if he makes CL.  He somehow gets Spurs Top 4, demands something like 200 million to spend, gets only a small part of that, get angry, leaks to the press from both sides appear, and Spurs sack him when they're 16th next November.

Wonder who he gets to play the 'well-considered old pro that he uses as a lightning rod for all problems and scare others'. Gonna guess Vertonghen - seems to have a thing for left footers (Casillas and Mata)

Tottenham are a club with a modest budget, a chairman who has strong opinions, a long term plan and a lot of players agitating over their future. Every one is a red flag when set against the name Jose Mourinho.

Maybe Mourinho approaches this job like his Inter years; that wasn't the strongest squad in Europe by any means but some exceptional work in the transfer market through selling their most marketable asset allowed him to succeed.

It's not like there's not a goal-scoring forward at Spurs that can be touted at an inflated value to certain chumps that Mourinho used to manage previously.

Yes, that's a bit simplistic and Levy is always going to get into a game of cutting off his nose to spite his face when it comes to a transfer negotiation, but if Mourinho is prepared to lower his sights and consolidate, it will be a good appointment.

The unknown is whether he has the backroom staff available to replace the likes of Faria and Morais.

Once again, I can't see why people are surprised by this. Levy has a billion pounds of porcelain to defend. He NEEDS CL football every season, not just for the money it generates but for the prestige and to justify that huge outlay, and to ensure full houses.

He knew that the chances of making Top 4 were looking next to impossible under Poch this season; they'd look pretty tough under the next manager as well, so he has to go for either a European Cup win or a UEFA Cup win as a way into the CL next season.

Hence Mourinho. Nothing is guaranteed in football, but Mourinho is good at bludgeoning his way to cup finals and winning them, by boring everyone to death, if nothing else.

Levy is a hugely controlled operator. He rarely rolls the dice because he doesn't need to, but this time it's his only option. This is him rolling the dice. It's craps in the toilet bowl.

Spurs are almost certainly going to be in the CL knockouts so it’s an interesting time to change.

Being reported as a done deal. I am not certain how this will turn out, atleast in the short term. I know in the long term the club will be wrecked including their academy prospects and economic stability because thats what Mourinho does, but short term he could do something with the squad they have.

All in all, I take some extra schadenfreude knowing that there's toffees whose brains are exploding that Spurs got him (I know they never had a chance but they could dream as long as he was jobless!)

I think Poch still has it to be honest, that project came to an end probably at the start of last season. The squad needed revitalising and they ended up doing nothing in the transfer market. If I ran Arsenal I'd be sacking Emery and hiring Poch ASAP.

Can't believe they're going for Mourinho.

Quote

It all ended the day the cheeseroom was cancelled https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/feb/11/tottenham-new-stadium-no-cheese-room-spurs

Since them 11th February Tottenham have got 26 points from 25 games. Before the cancellation of the cheese room. Spurs had 60 points from 26 games in 2018/19 season.

The very next game Poch confronted Mike Dean after Dean said "tough luck with the cheese room" to him at the end of the Burnley game. Poch was furious that Levy hadn't followed through on his number one stadium target. Poch felt that Dean was personally mocking him.

Spurs were never the same team in the league again.

Jose Mourinho has been appointed Tottenham manager, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked on Tuesday.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Mourinho has signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season.

"In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football," said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Jose Mourinho appointed new Head Coach

@SpursOfficial

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Head Coach on a contract that runs until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Jose is one of the world’s most accomplished managers having won 25 senior trophies. He is renowned for his tactical prowess and has managed FC Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. He has won a domestic title in a record four different countries (Portugal, England, Italy and Spain) and is one of only three managers to have won the UEFA Champions League twice with two clubs, FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. He is also a three-time Premier League Champion with Chelsea (2005, 2006, 2015).

Commenting on the appointment, Chairman Daniel Levy said: “In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

Speaking on his appointment, Jose said: “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

They’ve got to rebuild their squad.

And they’ve got to do it without CL football and a relatively small budget.

Surely that’s not what Mourinho is in for? They now be a team that sits back, and hits on the break.

I’m not convinced that he’s the man fir this rebuild.

And Pochettino? Now the hottest property in football.  Which tells you something

“Generosity always pays off. Generosity in your effort, in your work, in your kindness, in the way you look after people and take care of people. In the long run, if you are generous with a heart, and with humanity, it always pays off.”

They’ve been woeful for nearly a year now, not sure why there’s so much shock or criticism of Spurs. Should they just keep going playing woeful football for years? (Would be funny). A parting was needed.

Gotta agree with this. I rate him as a manager but spurs were drifting and there were no signs of recovery. It was only going to end one way so I'm not as suprised as most, more suprised at the replacement, could go either way. Interesting times!
