Fulham v Liverpool

V

Venue: Craven Cottage

Current League Form:

Liverpool: WWDWDW

Fulham: WLLLLD

Liverpool Manager: Brendan Rodgers

Fulham Manager: Rene Meulensteen

220 miles, 30 points, and goal difference of 64 it the gulf between Anfield and Craven Cottage's lads respectively.  The build up to today's match was been interesting to say the least. At the weekend, Liverpool dismantled, destroyed, decimated, drew and quartered (dare I go on!?) Arsenal at Anfield.  That 5-1 mauling was a wonderful thing to behold if you were a Red, with the Liverpool lads scoring their first from a crossed in free-kick with less then a minute gone on the clock. Fulham also had a good performance on Sunday, pulling back a goal against Moyes' Boys and earning a draw despite having to fight off 81 crosses. Their draw saved them from what would have been their 5th consecutive defeat in the league. Since these matches there has been quite a bit of ruckus regarding today's tie... Thoughts of rescheduling due to the impending strikes of public transit workers in London, massive flooding around the Thames, and today, there seems to be many drops of water falling from the sky with a blustery 40mph wind. However, despite the strikes (which have since been called off) three other matches in London were scheduled to kick off without a hitch: Arsenal, West Ham, and Leyton Orient (JWH weighed in on this and my respect for the man increased because of it).  Thus making Fulham's claims a bit small time... as their stewards could just take the bus to the match, after all with  Meulenteen reportedly saying they are going to play this one "compact" again, the aforementioned bus could just be moved onto the pitch between the sticks. Liverpool could see the return of Glen Johnson and Danny Agger today, if only for a cameo appearance. While Fulham are still awaiting the debut of their January acquisition, Kostas Mitroglou. After Saturday's result against Arsenal, there can be little debate that Liverpool are a one or even a two man team, as Sturridge only got one goal and Suarez did not increase his already impressive haul this season.  Thus he, Suarez, should be well made up for this match.  Look to Brendan having the lads play an aggressive pressing style, just like we did last match, for the first bit or until we have what could be a comfortable lead. Then I expect we will cool off a bit and may even see some fringe players making appearances after half-time, as we keep one eye on the FA Cup tie this weekend with Arsenal.
:scarf :scarf COME ON YOU RED MEN! :scarf :scarf

Lineups: Forthcoming

Liverpool: Mignolet, Flanagan, Skrtel, Toure, Cissokho, Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling. Subs: Brad Jones, Agger, Aspas, Moses, Allen, Kelly, Teixeira.

Fulham: Stekelenburg, Riether, Burn, Heitinga, Riise, Tunnicliffe, Sidwell, Kvist Jorgensen, Richardson, Holtby, Bent. Subs: Hangeland, Kasami, Kacaniklic, Stockdale, Duff, Cole, Parker.

Match Officials: Referee: Phil Dowd; Assistants: D Bryan, A Halliday; Fourth Official: A D'Urso.

No, we need volunteers to put their testicles on the menu for every CITY game.

In fact, we should be equal opportunities here, testes and ovaries all round.  No need to be shy, girls!

16: slowmo replays of Dowd's fall being shown. I expect we will be seeing gifs of that for years to come. Fulham playing it back to their keeper and hoofing it long regularly.

16' The stream is a little dodgy but I will try to do my best here, as I see the kind individual trying to adjust the settings on the input/output of the stream, Liverpool with the ball in Fulham half to the left flank. Cissokho gives it back to Henderson, moving around, Suarez gets in and takes a shot from inside the box, tight angle and miss.

21: It's all Liverpool here at the moment, but without us creating any glaring chances as such. Suarez whips a ball in from wide left for Sturridge to get on the end of, but it's too low and Fulham clear it. Suarez then fouls a player and it is a Fulham free kick.

26: Sturridge with a bit of space down the left. Lovely one two with Suarez and takes it back into the box but his control lets him down and it falls to the keeper who clears it. Sturridge then hits one from 20 odd yards out but the shot is tame and easy for the keeper to collect.

29: Riise with a long throw in.. a very long one but Skrtel heads it clear. It comes back to Riise who hits one from distance. It clips a Liverpool player and out it goes for a Fulham corner... Toure heads it clear. It's put in again by Fulham and Toure clears again.

Over to you TGF mate.

It seems that Toure has been brought in to our squad so proive the leadership, knowledge, voice, and own goals that Carra was so famous/infamous for.

No, we need volunteers to put their testicles on the menu for every CITY game.

In fact, we should be equal opportunities here, testes and ovaries all round.  No need to be shy, girls!

32' That was some good and quick possession play, but the final ball is a little off, giving the keeper chance to get on top of it.

Another attempt to dink the ball in the path of running Suarez but just ahead of him. Keeper catches it.

Too right Phil mate, I have been a bit harsh on the lad, it was all in good fun.  8)

We are extremely capable of scoring a few, it's a matter of keeping the heads up and sticking at it. At the moment all our penetrating passes into the box are over hit and going into the hands of Stekelenberg.

34' Stream froze there with Henderson on the screen, I don't mind it. ;)

Back on possession Skrtel, building from the back. Given away and now Fulham will counter down left, good cross from Richardson but Bent's head is wild.

They are attacking down the left again and again, need Flanagan to step up and the defensive midfielders to double up on Richardson.
