I know, but as you pointed out yourself (in a previous post) and others did as well, they may not be in the draw... And that topic has gained steam since then...

That's because there are loads of people out there who are caught in the spotlight of the United "magic"...n just won't be told that their supposedly insightful cautionary note about United's abilities to win the CL this season is a load of bollocks.

I'm sure these people believe in ghosts n alien abductions too...

The best way to silence them is to stop responding to their deluded posts.

A question for the people suggesting that the Mancs could win the Champions League: Have you actually seen them play this season?

Is it true that we could potentially play Napoli in the qualifiers? Our co-efficient can't be that bad that we would be unseeded for the damn qualifiers?

If you mean the Mancs, then no they can't - they miss a game when we play Southampton because of the Carling Cup Final. If we lose to Southampton and they beat West Brom (a week apart), they could be within 8.

They would have a game in hand on the rest of the league against Man City at home, yet we'd have one as well, against Sunderland.

Aaahhh shit yep your right I forgot they weren't playing this weekend.

Only if we're fourth.

I can see your players getting you through against Olympiakos.

But the teams that will be in the next round will have far too much for you.

It could be very embarrassing Jonno. Seriously.

To be fair to them that was probably the greatest side they have ever had. So you can't really compare the two, even though they did fluke that win.

Point I was making is that anything can happen. If they played Bayern or real Madrid, PSG they'd get slaughtered.

I mean they had SAF managing them then and won the league that same year so was clearly a good side.

I think we have as much chance of winning the CL as Gollum's horde of ogre's (or orcs). I see them as being one of the poorest teams left in it and if they surprise me and get past this stage I can't see them getting any further.

Anyway, who cares? We will finish in the top 3 so it makes no difference....

Both our win in 2005 and Utd's win in 1999 was largely down to the managers who were in charge. That's the difference here. If this Utd side still had Demento managing it I could believe that they might have a slight chance of fluking the CL this season. But they don't, David Moyes is their manager, so rest easy mate.

The same Chelsea who have finished 18 points ahead of Ferguson's Mancs that season?

Lets put it this way: The Mancs have a theoretical chance of winning the Champions League this season. However, that chance is the same as Everton winning the Premier League this season. I wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

I've said it all season and I'm even more certain of it now: If Manchester United are drawn against a big side in Europe (Bayern, PSG, Madrid, Barca) then they will be humiliated over two legs. Not a 3 or 4 nil aggregate score, I'm talking double that. They will be pummelled.

And there is always a chance they could be drawn against Chelsea. Mourinho against Moyes in a two-legged tie? There is only going to be one winner there. They will do well to get past Olympiakos.

That's because that United team was a very good team under arguably the best manager of all time.

Huge difference. Plus that is one game. Unied will have to do that multiple times we a weaker team under a horrible manager against some of the best club sides of all time.

People need to use logic when determining United's CL chances. To say that a team 11 points behind 4th place and has generally underwhelmed all season is going to suddenly win the CL by beating any combination of Barca/Real/PSG/Bayern (to name a few) is far fetched to say the least.

Yes, we were atrocious in the league in 2005. But before our win logic would still have been applied, and we would have been huge outsiders. I know the way we won was a fairy tale story, but you can't equate that to this year....just because it's United.

Moyes cannot motivate that team like Ferguson did, no matter which way you slice it.

However, like us they have an incredible knack of getting results when they need it most. I'll be astonished if they get to the semi - finals but CL is a lot more to do with luck rather than consistency in the league.

We weren't atrocious in the league - we finished 5th, 3 points behind Everton having rested our best players before crucial Champions League ties. 'Atrocious' is taking a team that won the league by 11 points to sixth in the league.

Why bring up Harry Kewell? He was injured, not shit. He was reportedly being chased by MIlan, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona when we signed him and when he was fit was a very good player. And Djimi was a Houllier buy that Rafa improved as far as he could. That's what great managers do.

Everyone is apparently still under the impression that Ferguson is still managing them.

It doesn't just disappear in about a year. They've still got a bit of spirit like this in them. Look at their match against Hull, or against Leverkusen, or Stoke when they went behind a couple of times and Leverkusen again. They will lose it gradually, but they've still got a bit of hope yet, not fully over. Bit naive to say that they don't have it anymore.

Not any more they don't.

Everyone is apparently still under the impression that Ferguson is still managing them.

It's bizarre - did any of these people watch the League Cup semi-final? Or their 81-cross masterclass against Fulham?

It doesn't just disappear in about a year. They've still got a bit of spirit like this in them. Look at their match against Hull, or against Leverkusen, or Stoke when they went behind a couple of times and Leverkusen again. They will lose it gradually, but they've still got a bit of hope yet, not fully over. Bit naive to say that they don't have it anymore.

It disappears in less than 6 months. Which is what has happened. Which is why they went from 89 points and champions to 11 points off fourth place with only 11 games to go.
Better looking than Samie.
