Was there always a separate domestic-only window? Never noticed it

I know it's exeptional circumstances but that's a hell of a long way into the next season for it to be carrying on.
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Depends when the new season starts. A lot of talk around 12th September so it’s not too dissimilar to previous seasons (2-3 weeks).

Yeah, true, it just sounded a long time being October! I'd rather they were finished before the season starts under normal circumstances too.

They voted to scrap that at one of the meetings just a year after introducing it..

It was hoped major leagues across Europe would also bring their own windows forward.

However, that did not happen and a number of clubs found themselves in the uncomfortable position of knowing their players were in demand across the continent but unable to bring in replacements for anyone they wanted to sell.
