VGA Question
« on: May 8, 2013, 12:59:32 pm »
I have my laptop hooked up to my 3DTV via VGA cable. Now when browsing Navi-X on XBMC i notice that there are some films that are 3D. Would these films work in 3D over a VGA connection?

use the SBS videos, side by side and you will be fine. If you are using a Blu-Ray drive on your laptop it will not work.

Will my TV switch to the 3D mode though if the input is VGA?

Does your laptop have an HDMI connection? If not use that. OTher wise buy an Android HDMI Stick and SD Card off ebay and plug it in to your TV and put the SBS video files on the SD card.
Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-PC-TV-Box-RK3066-Cortex-A9-1GB-RAM-4GB-HMDI-Dual-Core-Android-4-0-/300797239891?pt=US_Internet_Media_Streamers&hash=item4608e9a253

A friend of mine has an old laptop and wants to connect it to his TV.

Since he wants to connect it via hdmi and the only connection available is this one will those two adapters ( a VGA male to DVI female and a DVI male to HDMI female) suffice to get the job done? He has of course an HDMI cable available.

I don't know if that combination will work but if it does it will be video only as VGA doesn't carry audio. You would need a separate lead for that.

I know VGA doesn't carry audio, that's why I mentioned two adapters and they will go in that order I mentioned. Then last goes the HDMI cable.

It won't work because the VGA output on the laptop will not carry the audio, it doesn't matter if you are putting the VGA cable into an adaptor - by that point the audio is gone.

If you are using the VGA output on the laptop, you will need to run separate cable for the audio (likely 3.5mm jack to RCA phono).

I use a VGA converter box with a HDMI output - I think you'll need that as it has to be translated.

Not used it in a while, but it has a VGA Input and an audio input (from your MIC on the laptop) with a HDMI Output

Better just to buy a Chromecast. You can cast your laptop screen to the TV, plus get all the other Chromecast features as a bonus.
