Yeah. Commend Luis for his performances but don't want him representing the club as a captain / vice captain unless he is actually here next season and beyond. He's a hired gun, a bloody good one, but that's all he is. Leave that crap to Arsenal.

No, Stevie was already captain before his two flirtatious summers; he offered to resign the captaincy iirc when the season started.

If you're happy for him to wear the red shirt than you should be happy for him to have the captaincy if that is ever the case. Can't have it both ways. And yes, the majority of us appear to be fickle if you read back on what was posted about Luis during the summer.

To be fair, I expect to have 11 captains on the pitch in a red shirt, each giving their all and setting benchmarks for the rest. Wearing the red shirt should mean that the team can still perform and produce without a nominated captain on the pitch.

All it should be for is the toss up.

To be fair, I don't captaincy as an issue one way or another.

In this sport at least, the role of captain isn't one which carries great responsibility, formal or otherwise.
Leaders emerge naturally, and it ends up being those who are the most vocal and/or those who are the most respected who lead the team, or parts of it, on the pitch.

Who really cares who actually wears the armband?

I don't want him to be captain because the armband may affect his form. When something ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
Lucas is a fine choice.

you do know there is a reason why clubs have an appointed Vice captain. If Daniel plays from the start there is no question he'll wear the armband.
Point taken so Luis is vice vice captain

Everything from the summer has been forgiven but not forgotten.

Wouldn't have him as captain. Lucas, Skrtel, Johnson and even Henderson should be considered before him.
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Adios Rafa, buena suerte.

I wouldn't have him as captain. It's too much for him to worry about. Just stick him upfront and let him run riot. That's good enough for me.

It's been said on the official site that Suarez will lead the line (not sure if that meant being a captain).

Ridiculous naming him captain. What is he going to do? Talk to the referee in a calm way (in his perfect English) when something bad is happening? Cool down his fellow players in arguments? Lift the team spirit?

Obviously Lucas should be the captain today. A natural leader, a calm figure, speaks English perfectly and can thrive on his teammates.

Captain? He is an inspirational player, but he needs to play his own game. Being captain with all that entails is not for him. Lucas is the natural and deserving captain but the manager  decides and stands or fall by  such decisions.

It's not just about direct assists either. It's the movement from the likes of Coutinho, Sturridge, Sterling in the last couple of games. The movement off the ball gives him the space to work his individual magic.

I agree with that: it's mostly been Sturridge giving him space to work.

Fair point for Lucas being captain, but this is a good move. Its pretty obvious he leads by example with the effort he puts, he is an inspiration for anyone on the pitch so he has every right to be captain.
Let me tell you about the times when tackling was allowed
