I can't see a British general saying that....

(maybe I'm wrong)

Most of them probably not. Mind you, maybe if they did we wouldn't have lost our last two wars...

He also said "None of the widely touted new technologies and weapons systems "would have helped me in the last three years [in Iraq and Afghanistan]. But I could have used cultural training [and] language training. I could have used more products from American universities [who] understood the world does not revolve around America and [who] embrace coalitions and allies for all of the strengths that they bring us."

I suspect he's an extremely intelligent man.

You do have to plan ahead with kids, they're much smaller targets than adults and quite a bit nippier.

Some more military themed ones..

"If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan your mission properly"  - A seriously hard nut

"There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today" - Admiral Beatty at Jutland on observing first his own flagship HMS Lion get badly hit, then HMS Indefatigable followed soon after by HMS Queen Mary getting hit and both of them subsequently violently exploding and sinking with almost total loss of their crews, and then HMS Princess Royal too also get badly hit.

Not sure as to the legitimacy of this, but it still rings true:

"Northland College (NZ) principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth. "Always we hear the cry from teenagers 'What can we do, where can we go?'

... My answer is, "Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you've finished, read a book."

"Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again."

"In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you..."

On further investigation it seems it was written nearly 50 years ago by a juvenile court judge, Philip B. Gilliam.

"Kevin, you're drunk again".

"Ah ah, so would you be if you drank as much as I did" was his lege

Probably right. Any of the characters involved in the private wars in the Balkans were in a league of their own, most of which we'll never know the full account of. (David Niven was there for a while, I read once he was an accomplished neck slitter, as was Anthony Quayle and also Christopher Lee, possibly the last one still living from them all)

I must apologise to you because I forgot the man who is almost certainly the most nails person who has ever lived

Lt Gen Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart VC KBE CB CMG DSO

He fought in the Boer War, World War I, and World War II; was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip and ear; survived a plane crash, tunneled out of a POW camp, and bit off his own fingers when a doctor wouldn't amputate them. He later said "frankly I had enjoyed the war."

After escaping from an Italian POW camp in 1943 - Once de Wiart evaded capture for eight days disguised as an Italian peasant, which is surprising considering that he was in northern Italy, did not speak Italian, and was 61 years old, with an eye patch, one empty sleeve and multiple injuries. Ironically, de Wiart had been approved for repatriation due to his disablement but notification arrived after his escape. As the repatriation would have required that he promise not to take any further part in the war it is probable that he would have declined anyway.

He was later taken to Rome to assist Italian attempts to get out of the war. While having a suit made as part of the cover for what was happening he told Italian tailors to make sure his suit was made properly as he wasn't going to wear one of their 'bloody gigolo suits'.
