Pleased to see Clarke doing well.  Wish he'd waiting a week to start doing well like
Didi Hamann

In the corridors and changing rooms of Anfield I met many people - the great, the talented, the legendary.  I know that I only met one genius.  He was a small, smiling man with a neatly clipped beard.  His name was Rafael Benitez.

He's doing well so far and I'm happy for him, simple as! Wonder if they'll get any funding in January to keep it up.

of greater concern is that he's starting to morph into Jim Bowen...a worrying trend in anyone's book
They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

Dan Ashworth.

Be interesting to see how they cope without Ashworth now that he's gone to the FA. Apparently he's helping to find his own successor, although the only name I've seen mentioned is Comolli... Ha.

Yeah, that will be key for them in the future, getting a good replacement for Ashworth.

Clarke seems to have picked his job carefully, he took over a team in good shape with excellent superiors. So far Clarke has done really well, the buys have been good, the team seem to like playing for him, he knows how to change things. Will be intresting to see what happens when injuries bite and after the first season.

A little unfair on Di Matteo that, mate. He guided WBA to automatic promotion and had them playing some good footy in the PL, only for their board to panic and sack him after a bad run. Somewhat surprising given WBA are not known for knee-jerk decisions.

Reports at the time were suggesting Di Matteo's attitude during the bad form was why he was sacked.

Showing how high you can get if you win your home games and pick up the odd point or 3 away from home. Hopefully we are about to go on a similar run.

They might not end up that far off 4th, they've already had some hard home games, carrying on beating the rest and they'll be around there.

So you're expecting arsenal, spurs, Everton and us all to over take them?

They probably will. Certainly based on past experience that would be the most likely thing to happen. The second half of the season is where money and quality starts to play out and that's even more true in the run-in. And we're not quite a third of the way through yet.

The time for admiring what he's doing there is in April or May. After 12 games last season we were 6th and Everton were 12th. And Newcastle were on for the champions league.

To be fair they were in the running until the very last games.

Mad to think at one point Chelsea had Mourinho with Brendan Rodgers and Steve Clarke in his back room staff, that has to be one of the best assembled setup ever.

I was studying in Newcastle last year and my Geordie mates all thought that the 0-4 at Wigan with a few games to go was what fucked it for them.

Didn't expect Clarke to be such a success honestly. Thought he'd do well, and have a very well-organised, solid team, but never dreamt he'd be in fourth place with WBA halfway through November!

With our starting XI there is no reason why we can't get 6th or 7th.

If we don't get defensive cover, and lose Mulumbu, Olsson or Yacob for sustained periods, we'll fall away for sure.

Just enjoying it while it lasts!

I think they might do better than 7th. Upcoming fixtures below

28 Nov 2012. Swansea v West Brom  -Can get a draw here but wouldn't put a win behind them.

Sat 1 Dec 2012. West Brom v Stoke -Win.

8 Dec.Arsenal v West Brom -Lose seems likely, but they could hold for a draw.

16 Dec.West Brom v West Ham -Win

22nd Dec. West Brom V Norwich    -Win

26 Dec. QPR V West Brom  -Win

29 Dec. Man Utd V West Brom- Lose.

Out of a possible 21 they could reasonably gain 13-15 points which would be fantastic. If they could achieve that they'd be set for the jan-march Goldrush.

Furthermore, in Jan their first 3 games? Fulham at home, Reading away and Villa at home. Another potential 9 points before they encounter a tricky end of Jan and feb.

Really can see a top 7 finish for them.

26 points before December is a fantastic achievement for what was not so long ago known as a yo-yo club.

At the worst they've secured another season, but would be delighted to see them keep this form going and administer a severe bloody nose to the established "order" of the PL.

29 Dec. Man Utd V West Brom- Lose.

Unless they dip massively, which is possible rather than inevitable, I fancy them going to MU and getting a point, simply because they are 'nobody's fools'. Unlike other teams who cack their kecks before they get off the coach, I expect Steve to have them organised and focused days before.

Credit to him, there's a club of people that wouldn't have been surprised if they'd have been relegated - he's doing great.

Credit to their chairman as well for selecting him, too often the merry-go-round of sacked spuds are recruited. He's doing excellent so far.

I question anyone (apart from manchester fans) who wouldn't want WBA to win the league over United or City. It'd be a great victory for the sport and the league, no chance though.

They're the type of team that can play that brand of football exceptionally, and the type of the club that can play solid counter-attacking football because you expect most teams to play onto them. If a big club tried to play with every man organised behind the ball, their matches would finish 0-0 because the other team would be satisfied with a point. Clarke's doing a fantastic job there, though.

I like Clarke, I don't mind West Brom, I like Mulumbu a lot.

But Jonas Olssen is a shithouse of the highest order, and one of the most cynical, snidey, and downright horrible players I've ever laid eyes on. It's astonishing how many times he gets away with going right through the back of someone five or ten yards outside the box. He's always whingeing, always in someone's face, always putting himself about like a big man, yet I've seen him take some right tumbles when a striker muscles him back. He's a very good player, but a massive, massive cock.
I don't have to sell my soul... he's already in me.

Agree with that. Its good for the morale of the league to see a team nobody expected to be near the top, to be up there a 3rd through the season. Ohters teams know that one day it might be them having a year like this and even though we know WBA will slip a little at some point, they have done enough to give themselves a real shot at top 8 this year.

Playing well. But the real test will be to see if they can sustain it. Already beaten us and Chelsea so they can come up with goods no doubt, but doing that over a season is what separates the good teams from the average ones.
