A couple of things.
I grew up with Kenny as my hero, player and then manager. I, like I hope 99% of RAWK wouldn't swap him for any other manager on the planet. But lets live in reality here. Kenny couldn't have got Poulsen to Evian or Cole to Lille. He couldn't have cut a deal with Jova's agent to shop him around for the club in return for us letting him go for nothing. He couldn't have played hardball with Newcastle or Blackpool to get our man at a good price, while RAWK went into meltdown. He had neither the time or the modern finacial experience. Even those managers like Fergie or 'arry who are presented by Sky as utterly in control, have Chief Executives to do the negotiations for them. And I don't remember any of them handling such a massive overhaul in essentially one window. Kenny will start the season with not even one 1st team player he really didn't want still in the squad. How many managers can say that?
DC took stick at the start, he needs praise for doing a near impossible job. And, also, FSG are using an American style of running a Sports business. If it wasn't DC, it would be somebody else, they are not going to give a blank cheque book to a manager, not even Kenny.
Also to the guy worried about the fact our wage bill is probably lower, and extrapolating that into not winning anything because we don't have a high enough wage. We are probably paying Adam and Henderson combined less than Joe Cole (not that we have got rid of all his wages). We are paying Downing a similar amount to Jova. We had a high wage to start with, but not a squad to reflect it. That was pretty much FSG's first statement after buying us. That the quality of the squad did not reflect the payroll. That didn't mean reduce the payroll, it meant get a squad that reflect the payroll. Which is what we did. Now we just need to get Champions League footie next year, and we can justify higher wages, which considering our base squad is so strong, we can go for 1 or 2 top level talents.

Careful mate - you'll be chased out of here in a matter of minutes if you keep spouting sensible opinions like that willy nilly.

no. pre injury carroll is worth $25 at least. he's still recovering as his pace used to be much quicker.

I tried to be realistic.
But i understand these figures may not impress to some of the fans.
Liverpool bought young players and that was very wise.
In two to three years time Liverpool will be a force in the world.

Not getting suckered into posting in this one.

I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Can't understand he hasn't changed his name -- sounds totally ridiculous and unprofessional.
It’s not even about individuality, it’s about the team. Our game was based on his controlling of the tempo. Squeeze the life out of the opposition and then strike. That is our game. Like a pack of pythons.

Why did we sell Aquilani and Miereles?
Because KK didn't feel he could accommodate them in the team. I doubt it is anything more sinister than that. AA I have always rated Merieles is a decent pass and move player but he shirks tackles and has quite poor distribution, quality squad player at best. This thread is about DC I suspect he didn't decide to sell/loan both rather they did not fit into KK's plan.

I didnt think about this before, but a good point from BBC's Matt Slater.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2011/09/premier_league_feels_first_win.html

Quote
First, the smart clubs did their spending early to get it on last year's set of accounts - Liverpool and the two Manchester giants were the cutest about this and I was interested to read Damien Comolli's remarks about the "support" he was given by Liverpool's owners to buy first, sell second.

This means that when Uefa comes calling, these clubs won't be able to hide their expenditure but can demonstrate a "positive trend" towards the 2013/14 season, when FFP comes into full effect.

AA was on what, 70,000 or 80,000 depending what you believe. Under FSG we aren't going to pay that to a bit player. If Kenny thought AA would be a regular starter it would be one thing, but otherwise that is simply wages that can be used to pay for multiple young talents or one or more first teamers.
And this isn't about whether AA was good enough to be a 1st team regular, that is a whole different debate, the fact is under Kenny he wasn't going to be.
Raul was different. By all accounts his wages were about half of AAs. As such that is OK for a squad member and regular off the bench type player. Howver he wanted a big pay increase, which he had been promised by the previous regime. We wouldn't pay it because it would have put us in the same situation as with AA. Chelsea would pay it. He wanted a move. We really didn't want to sell to him as he was a good squad player, and in particular we didn't want to sell to Chelsea. However he insisted, so we made him put in a transfer request to ensure we got all the money for him.
If Gerrard and Bellamy get and stay fit, we won't miss him at all (and I was a big Raul fan). If however both are injured we may wonder about it if we get a run of 0-0 results when teams just frustrate us and we need something different off the bench.

Good summation why Meireles has gone.  I think that Kenny would not mind having Meireles around if he did not force a move.  I think he is a useful player to break down other teams, now we have to rely on Gerrard, Maxi and Kuyt to blend their skills with Suarez.  Bellamy is also a potential game changer like Meireles .  Therefore, we lost a replace a pretty good option to help us break down defences with a more unpredictable one that can potentially score more goals so the overall gameplan is still intact.

Plus, our team will also be fired up to play Chelsea and will work extra hard to spite Torres/Meireles.
