We caught Norwich offside a grand total of ZERO times.

Have never hopped on the anti Carra sentiment which has been prevalent on here for a while, but it's obvious there are serious flaws to our defence at the moment and he;s a big part of it.

Unfortunately, bar Agger, I dont see who's a better center back then him in the squad. Coates looks like he'll need time and a guiding hand next to him as well.

For Holt's goal Carra has gambled that the ball is going to be fizzed across the six yard box and ignores Holt. Carra the right sided Centre back's initial run is to cover the left hand edge of the six yard box. He is so terrified of someone getting infront of him he is covering before the ball is played.

Al, you conveniently ignore that the advantage is always with the attacking (running) forward on such classic occasions.

generally speaking how often do we catch teams offside? i've been looking for this stat and cant find it, but i honestly cant remember how many times we have caught opponents offside this season

You have to concede that there's some real issues there that are affecting other areas of the side though. Don't think we've solved any of it by signing Coates either, though I'm sure he'll be a star in the future, but I think we needed a real proven dominant CB to push for a place

as a comparison Javier hernandez has played around 360 minutes in the pl this season (around 4 full games) and has been caught offside 15 times

Of course there's problems, but with a left back bedding in and injuries at right back, we've got a respectable goals against column. To read this thread you would think we're dreadful in defence and have an appalling record.

I don't think it's as bad as that as long as we have Lucas playing infront of them for protection. I just think Coates had a chance to get premiership experience at Anfield yesterday and it was an opportunity missed.
