If they try to get us to play in the Europa, can we just... say no?

not really. We applied to be in Europe last season, didnt qualify. To turn it down would be silly. Plus it makes sense to be in it.

Could we say 'No thank you' to a possible EL place?
Why would we do that? It's a piece of silverware.
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence.

Why is everyone saying they wouldn't be happy because we don't deserve it? If we scored an undeserved last minute winner would you cheer?

If the referee booted it in for us, then no

Highly unlikely to happen but its UEFA so you never no, they might give a spot to a MLS team just for the heck of it.
The best way to deal with this would probably be to give the highest coefficient team to be knocked out in the 4th QF round the extra spot and give a highest placed Turkish side not involved in the match fixing the Europa League spot.

That said, I would take CL or Europa League football back in a heart beat, no matter how poor we where last season.
More Liverpool games to watch :D

But with the massive match fixing scandal engulfing Turkey, you'd think UEFA would not want another Turkish team taking that place.

I don't even know what is going on, but bottom line Arsenal have to lose?

What does it have to do with EL though? I thought the problem was they are short of one team in CL?

I was getting at the OP, glad you brought the topic to my attention. We shouldn't be hoping and wishing for arsenal to lose, if they do they deserve to be out, but we certainly don't deserve to be 'in.' I think we, as Liverpool fans, should be of the, "no thanks, little embarrassing that really, give it Spurs." If it's given to us then fair enough, still embarrassing though.

I think we should be the 'yes please! Fuck Spurs, give us the extra income!' FSG run us as a business, therefore would jump at the chance for extra income.
This is a Liverpool forum. We are not talking about Demba Ba's cock.

This is really very interesting, I do miss those European nights.........

Just don't give us Europa. I'd be upset, and I don't want it, unless we essentially just use it purely for our youngsters.

What the fuck? Would people honestly be annoyed if we were allowed into the Champions League, ffs, I give up.

Because they team that loses out in the 4th CL QF round go automaticly into the EL, so if the give a team that loses in the 4th round the extra CL seat an extra EL seat opens up.

I think that scenario only occurs if teams weren't admitted prior to the competition commencing. But Fenerbahce were originally admitted by UEFA back in July, only to now have been kicked out. Trabzonspor who finished 2nd are also implicated. Some of the other clubs like Bursaspor have already played fixtures in the Europa League. It's a complete mess and a farce really. Still  should go to a Turkish club, or a club that qualified for either competition.

The only thing is, Fenerbache WERE admitted, and then kicked out.  And with the match-fixing allegations rife in Turkey, they may look elsewhere.  A long shot, but there you go.

As some have said, we might not want such an "embarrassing" way to get in, fair enough.  But if we are picked for the CL or even the EL (shudder), we should be proud to participate, end of, IMO.  It's not like we caused this problem to occur, and by right we would be in it because of historically doing well in it (our coefficient), that's all.

Yeah , getting a chance to give all of our players adequate playing time and giving our youngsters European experience is a terrible thing , isn't it? What a fucking disaster it will be.

If Arsenal lose, they would go into the Europa League and not the Champions League, even if they have the highest coefficient as they are actively in a european tournament and it would actually render their tie against Udinese useless.

If it does happen it kinda makes sense and is possibly a fairer way of doing it, if the match fixing allegations in Turkey prove to be true then no team from that country would to be able to participate, if this is the case then surely the highest ranking team not to have qualified for the Champ league would be given the chance to enter the competition otherwise what the point in the points system?

Do we deserve it possibly no, would I take it definitely!
