49 - Suarez's touch is bordering on cheating. He brings down a long ball (not hoof, nota bene) passes to Carroll who is set off balance not a foul but pushing it and the ball is cleared.

Was just a second or two off from being perfection. The prospect is mouthwatering

Just my two cents on the matter but I personally think the world as a whole is missing out on a life bettering experience of seeing Wes Brown's orange hair

VERY poor that by Flanagan. You do not try and do that in defence.

Flanno far far to casual on the ball! Not sure what the lad was thinking, but we need to cut out those silly mistakes.

52 - Flanno with a "reserves" mistake. Takes to long on the ball and is stripped, cross finds Gyan but Pepe saves with ease.

Poor Flanno's ear must be burning after Carra's ... uhmm ... corrections

53 - Suarez crosses the ball but Carroll's header is wide of the mark.

54 - Corner goes to Liverpool but Downing's cross is a bit high and Carroll has to reach back. He still gets the ball mind you. Unless I've counted wrongly that's 6 headers he's made despite being pushed, off balance and/or too high to get power on

Goal Sunderland :( A stunning strike has be said though, Flanno caught all ends up and doesn't get back into position.

I´d like another before half time here. Sunderland cannot be as poor as this second half I would imagine.

Hmmm.... To be honest that cross should never have come in from the left. We had plenty of bodies out there but all of them went to the ball and left Bardsley free to whip a cross in.

Flannagan has lost it a bit here. Carra needs to give him a hand on the shoulder. Don't give him the scream Jamie, it won't work.

Maybe starting Flanno coming back to haunt Kenny? Although to be fair he has had a pretty decent game up until then.

58 - All Sunderland at the moment. Sessegnon with a bit of trickery but his shot is over the goal.

59 - Henderson gets a yellow for a stupid tackle on Colback

Carragher backing off Sessegon there. You can´t do that 18 yards out.

Dirk coming on for Henderson I assume

Flanagan's fault, I'm afraid. He's looked very bad this half and Kelly would be a better choice right now. He's all over the place.

I agree with you on that. But I do tend to think that subbing him off now for Kelly would crush the young lad's spirits. Kuyt providing support should ease his worries if nothing else

Woeful defending sadly, far too slow to close the ball down with 3 men all chasing the ball, Larsson left in acres of space, Flanagan doesn't even really have the excuse of having gone for a header or something.

But then again, without shit reffing we ought to be 2-0 up against 10-men, and thinking about taking Suarez off for a good ref. Now we're chasing it against a team that will be determined.

One other thing - I've been really impressed so far today, I like how we're showing patience in possession too, it's brilliant...but we haven't closed down as a unit well at all. Sunderland are getting too much time on the ball, and while the goal was hugely against the run of play you could also see that Sunderland had looked more comfortable because they'd been able to ping it about a bit.

Again, all valid points. Flanagan can be excused for having a young head on his shoulders, but it's still bad defending. The score should've been 2-0 to begin with as Carroll's goal was perfectly legit, and even if it hadn't been they should be a man down and the way we played to begin with I don't doubt we'd have added another.

And I think that bringing Kuyt on will help us get people higher up to press them. Far too often did we see Suarez press them into the box only for the rest of the team to be nowehere to be seen

Why is Flanagan forward at corners? Given the height and build of the rest of our defence you would imagine he would be the one staying back!

62:00 Liverpool trying to play themselves back into the game. Just gone off the boil in the 2nd half. We need to start pressuring the backline and we need to start getting those scoring opportunities.
