Flanagan's fault, I'm afraid. He's looked very bad this half and Kelly would be a better choice right now. He's all over the place.
I agree with you on that. But I do tend to think that subbing him off now for Kelly would crush the young lad's spirits. Kuyt providing support should ease his worries if nothing else
Woeful defending sadly, far too slow to close the ball down with 3 men all chasing the ball, Larsson left in acres of space, Flanagan doesn't even really have the excuse of having gone for a header or something.
But then again, without shit reffing we ought to be 2-0 up against 10-men, and thinking about taking Suarez off for a good ref. Now we're chasing it against a team that will be determined.
One other thing - I've been really impressed so far today, I like how we're showing patience in possession too, it's brilliant...but we haven't closed down as a unit well at all. Sunderland are getting too much time on the ball, and while the goal was hugely against the run of play you could also see that Sunderland had looked more comfortable because they'd been able to ping it about a bit.
Again, all valid points. Flanagan can be excused for having a young head on his shoulders, but it's still bad defending. The score should've been 2-0 to begin with as Carroll's goal was perfectly legit, and even if it hadn't been they should be a man down and the way we played to begin with I don't doubt we'd have added another.
And I think that bringing Kuyt on will help us get people higher up to press them. Far too often did we see Suarez press them into the box only for the rest of the team to be nowehere to be seen
