About six months ago.

Before that, I want to say crystal palace? But he got the rebound.

Aquilani has excellent delivery from indirect free kicks. He put in a very dangerous ball against Portsmouth in his first season.

That's the one.

http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/liverpool-2-2-sunderland-gerrard2

Oh yes, that was the goal I first time suspected something's gone wrong with Stevie's and Nando's so far perfect love affair...

Torres builds it, puts in a perfect cross, Stevie - timing it just perfectly mind you - puts it in then zooms past Torres no eye contact nothing to celebrate with the crowd.

I remember it it now. At the time I thought I was just reading too much from it  :-\

Everton in 2005 (or was that touched first?) where he placed it
A similar one v Villa in the 5-0 (sure that was direct)
Villa away in 2007/08 opening day

I can think of about 5 others at least where he it was rolled to him and he slotted/smashed it in...Newcatle away, Portsmouth home in 2004/05, United away last season, PSV for his 100th, Arsenal at home in 07/08...any more?

EDIT - the compilation above will probably just show them all!

He scored against the mancs last season at Old Trafford. Pretty poorly struck but it did the job nonetheless. I do think Adam and Suarez are more dangerous in that position though.

Corners - Adam/Suarez
Free kicks close range - Suarez
Indirect free kick close range - Gerrard
Free kicks from the wings about 30/40 yards out - Adam/Henderson
Penaltys - Kuyt then Stevie but we all kno its the other way round.

Gerrard has been poor at corners but so was Alonso, Finnan, Kewell, Riera, Aurelio.....basically anyone I can think of since Gary Mac. It's as much the delivery as it is the movement and quality in the box. The best we've had in there in recent years has been Sami and then Kyrgiakos last season.
It's wonderful, it's marvellous, it's 3-3

Adam kicking -> Carroll raping/jumping on Skrtel = At least 10 goals per season.

That move where Skrtel and Carroll stick together at corners might actually work, now we've got the delivery to go with it.

Gerrard & Kuyt should continue to take penalties when they're on. Both are reliable and very cool under pressure.

Direct free-kicks: Suarez, Adam, Gerrard, whoever hits them best in training. Adam, Stevie have good delivery from wide, which Carroll can no doubt take advantage of.

not after Comolli's comments. My moneys on Adam.

Set plays are so important in the Premier League these days, aren't they?

It's around 35 per cent of the goals, so the more we have players who can take set plays, the better. We know Jordan Henderson used to take all the set plays at Sunderland and do it well. Charlie was doing the same for Blackpool. I've just watched some of the highlights of some of the goals he scored from direct free-kicks. He's a complete package of a very modern midfield player who can do several things on the pitch. And he brings this left foot that we didn't have in midfield until now.

Set pieces have arguably been our weakest area, offensively and defensively, ever since Sami stopped being a first team regular.

It's clear that Comolli has been focusing his priorities on obtaining players who will give us the highest probability of scoring from set pieces. With the additions so far, we are already a major force in offensive set-piece situations - Carroll being arguably the biggest aerial threat in the league, while Adam, Henderson, and Suarez are all excellent and experienced set-piece takers.

In recent years, when winning a corner at Anfield, we'd all roar in support for the players to score, but deep down we knew there was only a small chance that one of our players would get to the ball first, never mind score. Now we can get excited as one of our players steps up to take a corner, and there will be more than one reason for it.

Be nice, watching games with us getting into double figures on corners and not converting any should hopefully be a thing of the past.

Apparently we won 116 corners last season, anyone know how many we scored from?

For me it's gone from our biggest weakness to our greatest strength in 6 months. I reckon it will be:

Penalties
1. Gerrard 2.Kuyt 3.Adam 4.Suarez 5.Agger or Aurelio

First four are extremely reliable penalty takers and fifth options are both more than serviceable too. With Reina between the posts we'd have to go into any penalty shootout heavy favorites.

Free Kick Indirect:
R) Adam, Gerrard
L) Suarez, Henderson
Targets: Carroll, Kuyt, Kyrgiakos

Think we've got both fantastic takers and targets. Could do with a top CB target that plays more regularly but still we're are a nightmare to face up to IMO.

Direct Free Kicks:
R) Adam, Suarez
L) Suarez, Gerrard

Best in the league here as well IMO and we could get creative.  Adam & Suarez can bending them in as well as anyone and Gerrard with the roll out thunderbolt can be devastating too. We also have Kuyt swooping in to mop up any spills from the keeper. He's the master at that.

Corners:
L) Adam, Henderson, Suarez
R) Adam, Henderson, Suarez

We are one aerially dominant CB away from the perfect setup as far as I am concerned. Kuyt is brilliant at jostling with the Keeper. Carroll is hands down the the best target in the league and Gerrard looking to bang in a rocket form the edge of the box would surely be a devastating threat. Adam is probably in the top two or three corner takers in the league too.

I think we'll be easily the best set piece team in the league.

Being good at set pieces is not a feature that's automatically granted by having tall players and decent dead-ball takers, we'll have to practise movement in the box and runs for different types of free-kick/corner. It's been so annoying how bad we are at set-pieces, hopefully it will change.

Some people call them cheap goals, but I say set-pieces can be a work of art when done preoperly. If i was workin for Kenny's team, i'd probably make 70% of the pre-season training just on set-pieces, arranging hand signals, runs etc. because early season before a team has found their rhythm, set-pieces can be so important. You can get those 'cheap' goals and get your confidence going, which all by itself results in a team finding their rhythm and playing convincingly
