Brilliant stuff. Not a fan of the movie but that's really impressive. Nice to see it built up like that - you really appreciate all the levels of detail that go into each shot.

They didn't seem to be on the DVD version - maybe Blue Ray only :(

The scenes they showed were minimally different. I haven't got a Blue Ray player.

Some nice stuff on there, but I don't know if it's worth the extra effort. A couple of nice scenes with Janek but that's all.

Interview with the alien? Wasn't on the DVD...

I didn't find it. All I saw was the deleted scenes, director, editor and sfx man commentary and the pre-release promo stuff.

May have missed something though?

Apparently collector's edition has more stuff, but I only got the blue ray.

Nice. I personally like those kind of breakdowns to be a bit more technical in their description. There's some lovely matte work and great compositing that went into that. Did you work on any of those scenes?

Just watched this again today. I like the opening scene at Detifoss as I was there last year and it's incredible. Everything else about the film is still utter shite. I never thought that I would look back at Alien3 and feel it was the good old days of the franchise.

Was that the scene where the Prometheus ship crashed into the alien ship taking off? That looked to me like it was the most technically challenging shot. Would I be right? What was the software used for the 3d rendering?

that was one of the biggest shots yeah. sometimes whats challenging and what isnt doesnt show in the final output. something really simple looking could have actually been a huge pain in the arse for any number of reasons.

they used maya and renderman i think. thats not my side of it though. this article goes into a lot more detail:

Doesn't matter. In the film they aired it was clearly called LV-223.

LV-426 (Acheron) in Aliens is a completely different planetoid to LV-233 in Prometheus.

I'm a bit confused. Was the ship that crashed at the end of Prometheus the one that was found by the Nostromo in Alien? And if so, how can it be a different planetoid? That's why I mentioned LV-426 before.

Different, yes. The ship you find in Alien had a dude driving it* and a bunch of eggs. And it was a different planet/planetoid/whatevs.

Very easy to see why it's confusing seeing as its more or less identical in every sense. The umpteenth example of muddled, contrived plotting.

Or they could be drawing parallels between the two films, giving fans some sort of connection?

I don't mind that the planetoids are similarly named, either. It's how planets are designated in this universe.

loved the visuals, the sets, the future tech, the premise and that ship, I want one if I get reincarnated in a few hundred years time. But those characters, wtf was Ridley thinking? You'd find more thoughtful and intelligent characters down the local supermarket. The only half decent character was David, and he was a robot. Says it all really.

Hmm. There were 'lots' of ships in that base. It was clear it was a base and not a homeworld. Which would suggest there were countless other ships on countless other bases and planets.

If you found a Ford Mondeo crashed by the side of the road on the way home tonight, would you assume that it was the only Ford Mondeo in the Universe or would you see that it was clearly manufactured and surmise there were probably plenty of them made?
