Wow.Wow.Wow. This game is so un-Italian!

I would argue that the standard of defending in Italy has actually been fairly poor in recent years, but the "balance" has been more or less preserved by the decrease in top-class attacking talent making its way to the peninsula.

Surely the Sicilians won't c*ck this up now...

Poor touch from Milito, could've had a goal opportunity there.

What a game, really enjoyed the Serie A this weekend. This game and the Milan vs Lazio game should put an end to the myth that the Serie A is a boring league.

Udinese v Fiorentina ought to be good as well, though it overlaps a bit with our conquest of WHL on Sunday.

How was Abel Hernandez?

He was very good tonight, hes in for a big season IMO.

What about the game, a cracker of a match. I don't think the 3 at the back is going to help us, we don't look good at all - very disorganized and slow. That said, its a pleasure that Milito is back on form and Forlan looked the goods as well. Julio Cesar has to go in my opinion, hes been shit for a year now, too bad Viviano's injured or he'd have put serious pressure on him for the no.1 jersey. Anyway the seasons long, we'll bounce back.

Thought he did ok tonight but was dealt with well by Zanetti for first 50 mins or so.

I do agree he'll have a big season aswell, big talent he is.

Anyone know of any websites (other than you&footy tube) where I can watch Serie A highlights?

Roma - What the heck happened there? Pjanic looks like a steal for the price Roma paid.

But cracking game Inter Palermo. Micolli looked deadly right from the start with his movement and pace.

Awesome opening weekend in Serie A.  They keep this up and English people will be watching soon.

I like that Alvarez who came on for Inter last night.  Good on the ball and always an option.

...only if Inter persist with the 3-4-3 formation..!

God,they were a shambles against Palermo at times.A very enjoyable game though.

Brilliant stuff.

The situation strikes me as very similar to Benitez's appointment; hiring a coach who wants to defend high and play a more proactive game, at odds with the ageing squad at Inter's disposal. What's the opinion of the more seasoned Serie A watchers here? I've been slacking in the last few years.

Morati has made the same mistake Ac milan made after winning the champions league in 07. Thinking the team was good enough and needed no investment. Fact is mourinho was allowed to buy for the short term and now they need a whole re vamp of the squad as the likes of cambiasso, stankovic, motta, lucio, samuel, milito are either past it or just not durable enough. They need to sort out the midfield and defense or they might not even be in the champions league next season. Also, hiring a coach who's preferred formation and tactics don't suit the squad was a very foolish mistake imo as every team the team loses they will blame on the tactics rather than look at the deep rooting cause of the problem i.e the players and the squad.

Also, julio cesar is fast becoming the new dida with his howlers after being a top class goal keeper.

Just watching Inter vs Roma... Enrique will have an impossible job trying to impliment Barca style into this Roma team. They are all very lazy and hardly move off the ball.

Anyone else watching Inter-Roma?  I started watching about 20 minutes in, currently 0-0 at HT.

Inter seem to have gone 3-4-1-2, with Sneijder in his preferred trequartista role behind Milito and Forlan.  Forlan has been dropping deep in the buildup before pushing up on the last defender.  Nagatomo has been bright on the right wing.  Ranocchia is playing as the left of the centerbacks and has drifted too close infield to Lucio and Samuel several times and nearly paid for it.

I took me nearly the rest of the first half to figure out what Roma are doing, and I'm still not sure I've quite pegged it.  It looks like a variation of 3-4-3, with Burdisso, De Rossi, and Kjaer at the back, from left to right.  De Rossi pushes into the base of midfield in possession and drops back out of it.  Perrotta on the right and Taddei on the left (?!) especially have left big gaps for Inter to exploit.  Totti is just floating about, looking for trouble and finding it on occasion; he's played well today.  Borini has been active, though lacking in composure in good positions on several occasions.

Been an odd sort of stalemate, with moves from both sides often breaking down about 30 yards from goal.  Both teams look vulnerable to a quick counterattack, particularly Roma.  I'd like to see Bojan and Borriello come on in the second half for Roma, and Pazzini for Inter.  This seems like the sort of game where a tortured soloist like Mauro Zarate could make a difference.

from his time in Italy with Lecce and Fiorentina he was said to have a poor attitude and for the Italian youth teams, but seems he has turnt it round at Espanyol, could prove to be a great success story as a guy with a poor attitude turning himself into a great pro.

hope he does well at Roma, not sure about that head scarf thing he has on

edit: talking about Osvaldo! ha

Milito with a guilt edge chance, achors of space for a header from 6 yards and fluffs it wide.

Yeah, Osvaldo is a weird one.  Always looked capable of something special at Fiorentina but hardly ever seemed bothered.  I'm still not sure what kind of player he is going to be.

Milito has missed about a half-dozen clear chances over the past week.  What in the devil is going on?

Pjanic is so good technically, but i always think he seems rushed - when he doesn't have to be, the top players are the ones who make time for themselves and know exactly how long they have on the ball, still him Totti and Borini is exciting as hell, for the neutral.

I think Vucinic' move was at the right time too, not sure this set up would suit him too much.

Gago looks even more like a poof with short hair than he did with the flowing locks at Real.

Borini hasn't quite come off today but I can see why Enrique likes him.  Always there or thereabouts.

Is Pjanic a central midfielder then?  I seem to recall him playing wider for Lyon against us in the CL two years ago.

Zarate on.  Probably a better move than bringing Pazzini in straight away, actually.
