Brazil squad is ridiculous. Elias instead of Hulk, no Nilmar and no Hernanes.

Worst decision of all though is the worlds best left back this season being omitted.

I’m being stupid but who’s the left back?

The power of choice eh? Some quality players left out of the Brazil (and probably Argentina too) squads.

Good news, all. If you can't watch Copa America on ESPN in the UK or Univision in the States, you can watch it on Youtube.

Argentina and Brazil in the final you would think - and hope. I think Brazil will win it, Argentina's defence is a bit of a worry, especially at the heart of defence when you compare Brazil's - Lucio, Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

Yeah,Burdisso and Milito as your CB pairing would worry me alot.

I fancy Uruguay to win as they have a settled side whil Brazil and Argentina are in a transitional period now.

Does anyone know how the invitation system works? I can understand Mexico always getting asked as they're quite decent but why do Costa Rica always seem to be there too?

IIRC Japan were asked but had to pull out and then there was talk of Spain replacing them. If they can choose from all over the world Costa Rica seems to be an odd choice.

As for Costa Rica I'd imagine it was due to Japans late back out and the fact Costa Rica would be a feasible option logistically.

I just found out about the youtube broadcasts and am pumped; I wonder if the streams will be in HD??

Argentina's squad for Copa America:

Goalkeepers : Mariano Andujar, Juan Pablo Carrizo, Sergio Romero

Midfielders : Lucas Biglia, Esteban Cambiasso, Angel di Maria, Fernando Gago, Javier Mascherano, Javier
Pastore, Enzo Perez, Diego Valeri

DF : Nicolas Burdisso, Ezequiel Garay, Gabriel Milito, Luciano Monzon, Nicolas Pareja, Marcos Rojo,
Pablo Zabaleta, Javier Zanetti

Forwards : Sergio Agüero, Gonzalo Higuain, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lionel Messi, Diego Milito, Carlos Tevez

Jesus. The forwards are on another planet. The defenders are another story.

Mexico suspend eight 'sorry' players for six months

Page last updated at 18:08 GMT, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 19:08 UK

Eight players in Mexico's Copa America squad have been suspended for six months for indiscipline, with reports claiming they had female guests in their hotel rooms during training.

The Mexican Football Federation would not disclose the details on Tuesday.

Mexico is fielding a youth team for the tournament, with Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez not playing.

Jonathan Dos Santos - brother of Tottenham winger Giovanni - was one of the eight players suspended and fined.

Israel Jimenez, Nestor Vidrio, David Cabrera, Marco Fabian, Javier Cortes, Jorge Hernandez and Nestor Calderon were the others involved in the incident - reported to have taken place after Saturday's 1-0 win over Ecuador, Mexico's final warm-up match.

Their first match in the tournament in Argentina, which starts on Friday, is on 4 July when they play Chile in Group C.

The only 2011 Copa America match scheduled to be played in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, is the final on 24 July. But that venue is now under question after recent rioting at River Plate's Monumental Stadium. Eight venues in Argentina are being used - several in smaller cities that are largely unknown outside the country

"The players confessed," said Hector Gonzalez Inarritu, director of Mexico's national teams selection.

"They are very hurt, very sorry and they have said they are sorry to their fans.

"They are assuming the consequences. I am not going into details of what happened. The rules were broken, the code of discipline was broken and I have to act."

The players, who were each fined $4,100 (£2,570), are expected to be replaced.
---------------------------------

The other players sent home all played for Chivas.

They will be replaced by other U23's.

Marcelo.

Leaving aside the argument of whether he's the best left back in Europe for the minute, he was left out for disciplinary issues supposedly, i.e. pretending to be injured so that he didn't have to go to Brazil training camp for a friendly to stay with Real or so I read.

Best left back in the world? Had his best season yet, but when the big moment came, he literally fell on his arse, as Jamie Redknapp would say.

In my defence the reason behind it wasn't public knowledge when I posted.

As for the debate, I don't see who else has been better this season. I did say this season afterall, judging him on 1 game is harsh.

Fernando Duarte saying Mano Menezes practicing 433 in training with Pato, Robinho and Neymar up front.

Could be interesting with Lucas, Ramires and option of Ganso/Jadson/Elano in midfield.

Well looks like Mexico are in a spot of bother at yet another tournament

Quote

Mexico suspend eight players for six months after hotel incident

• CCTV allegedly showed 'female guests' arriving
• Squad staying together ahead of Copa América

    * Reuters
    * guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 29 June 2011 09.36 BST

Mexico have been hit by their second scandal this month after eight players in their Copa América squad were suspended for six months for indiscipline.

The players were caught breaching disciplinary rules while staying at a hotel in Ecuador on their way to the tournament in Argentina, which starts on Friday.

The players involved are forwards Marco Fabián de la Mora, Javier Cortés and Néstor Calderón, midfielders Jonathan Dos Santos, Jorge Hernández and David Cabrera and defenders Nestor Vidrio and Israel Jimenez.

Hector Gonzalez, director of national teams, said: "The players will be suspended for the next six months from any national team call-ups."

Mexican media reported the players had told the coach, Luis Fernando Tena, that they had belongings stolen from their rooms after inviting "female guests" to stay. Tena told reporters: "It's lamentable, I didn't expect it, I was surprised. Now we must start again."

The hotel's manager, Robert Ramia, told the Ecuadorean news programme Ecuavisa: "We have video of women entering the rooms area of the hotel."

Gonzalez said: "I'm not going to give details of the facts, but regulations were breached and indiscipline committed. The players confessed, they regret it, offer their apologies to the fans, coaching staff and directors and assume the consequences of their acts."

The players have also been fined 50,000 Mexican pesos (£2,600) each, while eight replacements have been named after Mexico were given permission to make changes to the squad before handing in their official list.

It is the second scandal to hit Mexico in less than a month after five squad members at the Gold Cup were suspended after testing positive for a banned substance. The national football federation has set out to prove that the players, tested at Mexico's training centre in mid-May, ate meat contaminated with clenbuterol, a substance used to speed up and increase muscle mass in animals.

Mexico were also embroiled in a case of indiscipline last September when Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez were suspended for six months and a dozen others fined over a late-night party at the team hotel in Monterrey after a friendly with Colombia.

Out of the last 5 Copa Americas, Brazil won 4.

Argentina's last title with their national team was in 1993, almost 20 years ago. (Olympics is youth title)

Its really funny seeing the statistics, Brazil won the last two confederation's cup, the last Copa Americas, reached 3 world cup finals in the last 15 years (with two titles), yet Brazilian players are the ones that get the most stick, being labled party animals that don't care about anything, yet when you unite 11 Brazilians they take the piss out of most, specially Argentina, who seem to get most of the man-love in Europe, but when you unite the amazing best 11 Argentineans they don't win shite in the last 20 years, and even manage to lose two titles to Brazil's B squad (2004 and 2007 Copa America).., and the things don't change in Club level, since in the last 2 decades Brazil won more Libertadores cup.
