hahah this thread is going mental, Neuer>Casillas, Pele and Alves overrated.
I was bored and had lot of time. So I got out my Pele book and waded through everyone of his matches and goals to get this stat
Pele vs European teams - 177 matches 173 goals.
god he would have absolutely raped any and every european league if he had been allowed to play. And yes he played against some shit ( never heard of these teams) european teams but checking the stats he only got around 10-15 against them. Most of these 173 goals come against european national teams and recognizable European teams like Benfica, Inter , Milan, Juventus, Lazio, Roma, Newcastle, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deportivo, Malaga, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Wolsburg, Hannover, Napoli, Genoa, Malmo, TSV Munich, Stade Reims, Anderlecht, AEK, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, West Ham, Fulham, Feyenoord, Basel, Lyon, Eintracht Frankfurt, Sheffield Wednesday, Schalke, Atletico Madrid, AIK (Sweden), Red Star Belgrade, Bologna, Marseille, St Etienne, Fenerbache, Girondins Bordeaux etc etc. Most importantly he scored twice against Stoke City on a cold and rainy night at the Britannia
.
I actually hope its the end of the he played in shit brazilian league argument. his goal scoring ratio is better against european teams then it against brazilian teams and I was rofl when I saw scorelines like Santos 7 Inter Milan 1
. It's incredible how many people disrespect Brazilian football and I'm not even sure how this argument started in the first place. Brazil ruled football during Peles time, the best footballers of their country played in Brazil itself and South American football itself was very strong at that point.
