I always wanted Aquilani to return, Adam to come to us & a defensive type midfielder. Now Aquilani is unlikely to return so I guess Kranjcar can do what Aquilani should have done, plus he has PL experience and is a creative player whose injury record is much better than Aquilani. Adam also offers something in midfield we don't have and unless we're buying James McCarthy instead, I'd have him along with Kranjcar in our midfield. While M'vila or Sissoko will offer competition with Lucas as well as giving us more of an edge in the bigger games.

We need depth in our squad as well as quality, we are way too short in our midfield options, Spearing & Shelvey are young and while both are quality, you can't expect them to be thrown where the sharks play and have instant impact, Stevie is getting old and is injured more than usual and let's put it into our minds about what if Raul or Lucas get suspended, we are FUCKED.

If we want to compete on all fronts, if we want to have a squad capable of competing on forth (I won't say the title yet) as well as going far in the Carling cup & FA cup then we need to have enough depth in our squad to do so, Spearing & Shelvey might get chances in the odd game, or some 15-20 minutes against lesser teams when it is over, but to me, they're not the solutions to our lack of depth in the middle, they need more experience IMO.
You do realize we play 4-4-2 now

Never really seen Kelly at CB, is best there? I think he possesses the skills to be a very good RB

Spurs are one of the clubs after Enrique.
I really can't see spurs edging us to signing any players

You think we settled on one formation for life? What are you Roy in disguise?  ;)
We played 3 at the back just a couple of months back. Every team below the 1st play 4-5-1 into 4-3-3. I think we will build a squad capable of playing a flexible system and also change things up in certain games.

I'm quite sure we lined up 4-2-3-1 against city.
Definitely how it appeared anyway.

We've played 4-4-2 since Carroll came in and you don't sign players for potential formations you may use during the season that's why you have players who can adapt to different formations.

We have definitely been playing a 4-4-1-1. However I can easily see us playing some 451/433 next year also. I do think the staple will be a 4-4-1-1 however with one genuine wide player and the other wide player tucked in more.

Precisely.
The fact is we have no set formation.
The reason? Probably because we've been ravaged by injuries and Kenny has had to get used to the team.
So we've had to chop and change to see what fits Kenny best, and to suit injuries.

Thats quite similar to the formation Kenny often used in his previous regime, isnt that so?

I'd love Alexis Sanchez to be signed in the summer to play up top with suarez & carroll

M'Vila and a new CB

after seeing flanagan i dont see why he couldnt come in for johnson when injured, also dont mind enrique as a potential signing, not the worlds best but good enough imo

                                                Reina

Johnson               New CB                         Agger                     Enrique

                                           M'Vila

                                Meireles      Gerrard

      Sanchez                                                                  Suarez

                                                 Carroll

Potentially i think thats a fucking boss team, a team that isnt unthinkable

A bench of: Gulasci, Carragher, Aurelio, Spearing, Lucas, Pacheco, Kuyt

Youth and experience on the bench, still the likes of flanagan, suso etc to come through, i seriously believe were not too far off, given the right signings in key positions.

I've seen the links to Enrique with Phil Thompson saying what he did, but where's the proof we've been linked to M'Vila and Sanchez, the latter being surely a pipedream?!

It depends how they see Suarez, if he's going to be utilised as a wide-forward or behind the striker Gomez would be Carroll's back-up. Saying that, not sure if we need to spend €30 million on a back-up striker.

Commolli is a big fan of M'Vila and Kenny has (allegedly) been scouting him as well. Sanchez is wanted by every team on the planet (bar maybe Barca and Real). It's just a question which team is willing to meet the required amount.

I really like that team and is pretty close to what I would be picking. I think Charlie Adam(s ;D) would be bought as well & would compete with Meireles for that position. I really like Meireles but I think Adam might be a better fit with M'Villa & Gerrard BTW you forgot Kelly

At the game on Monday I was taking in a lot, mainly watching Flano with pride but I thought it looked like a 4-3-3 and then when defending looked a 4-4-1-1 shape. We don't know the formation, that's what is being played with the players we have now, Summer goes by and depending on signings could be 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2, who knows?

Pardew: No Liverpool deal for Jose Enrique

Alan Pardew has denied that Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique is bound for a summer move to Anfield.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson caused controversy with comments to Norwegian TV over the weekend when he claimed that a transfer package between United and the Kop side was a "done deal."

2 wingers that can play either side,1 Left back and a creative midfielder. If we spend minimum £10 mill on each we are back in the Champions League. Whether thats Young, Sanchez, Hazard, Payet etc

Kelly is originally a centre back so he can start playing there, and i wouldn't mind off Spearings last two performances getting him alternating into the first team next year, if he hasn't much improved by next year then go for DM.

Is this Nuri Sahin 5mil release clause true? I've just been reading it on a couple of sites!  If so we better pull our finger out as clubs will be all over him, absolute bargain!  Can't actually think of a young ball playing midfielder I would want more regardless of fees.

To me it looked like a 4-4-1-1 but a little asymetrical with Kuyt further forward than Meireles. That isn't too far from a 4-3-3 so certainly a bit confusing.

In the last 3 months we've played:
4-3-3
4-2-3-1
4-4-2
4-4-1-1
3-5-2 (diamond midfield)
3-5-2 (with two DM's)
4-2-2-2

We've pressed against some opposition and sat back against others. Played long ball, pass and move, had midfield runners, restricted our midfielders at times given Suarez roles on the left, right and then free roles.

If you were an opposition managers how exactly do you set up against us. Kenny is a cunning old fox

I'm sure we'll end up signing Stewart Downing.

Plays left and right wing, beats his man and delivers decent crosses.

Rumours were that we very nearly signed him in Jan for £15m.
