I disagree with you there mate, i think Gulacsi is more than good enough to be backup.

Prefer him to get games on loan mind.
See how bad he was on loan at Tranmere?

Enrique -

No fee agreed, no nothing, Newcastle know we're interested though and that's that.
Reports of a 15m fee are laughable, I'd be shocked if our highest bid in the summer is over 10m.

Thank god for that 15 million was a stretch way over the top, 7-8 million would be a fair price isn't his contract ending soon anyway? So he shouldn't be that expensive.

He is shit mate. If he is not good enough for Spurs, he's not good enough for us. I don't want cast off's from other teams I consider inferior to us, simple as that.

So Mascherano,Benayoun, Crouch etc. should never have been bought because they were cast offs from 'inferior' teams?
Socrates did have a habit of polarising opinion, as does Lucas. Lucas is also good at hemming opponents in and locking them into difficult situations.

He was referring to Enrique, wasn't he?

Player who is in the last year of his contract, would be mad to go over 10m.

Borussia Dortmund's Nuri Sahin has an offer from Real Madrid, according to "Bild". He has a 6m buy-out clause in his contract.

If that's true we have to get in there, tell Adam to do one.

Depends what we offer him compared to what they do, absolutely no reason why we shoudn't go for it. If he says no he says no, doesn't hurt to try.

Why do we need 3 midfielders
I always wanted Aquilani to return, Adam to come to us & a defensive type midfielder. Now Aquilani is unlikely to return so I guess Kranjcar can do what Aquilani should have done, plus he has PL experience and is a creative player whose injury record is much better than Aquilani. Adam also offers something in midfield we don't have and unless we're buying James McCarthy instead, I'd have him along with Kranjcar in our midfield. While M'vila or Sissoko will offer competition with Lucas as well as giving us more of an edge in the bigger games.

We need depth in our squad as well as quality, we are way too short in our midfield options, Spearing & Shelvey are young and while both are quality, you can't expect them to be thrown where the sharks play and have instant impact, Stevie is getting old and is injured more than usual and let's put it into our minds about what if Raul or Lucas get suspended, we are FUCKED.

If we want to compete on all fronts, if we want to have a squad capable of competing on forth (I won't say the title yet) as well as going far in the Carling cup & FA cup then we need to have enough depth in our squad to do so, Spearing & Shelvey might get chances in the odd game, or some 15-20 minutes against lesser teams when it is over, but to me, they're not the solutions to our lack of depth in the middle, they need more experience IMO.

Jones is good enough to be backup if we still have Pepe because he never misses a game. ever. But we might not be so lucky if Pepe moves on and our next keeper is not as robust.

Can't replace Stevie. Just be happy you lived through his prime and hope someone else comes along that is even half the player (with better positional sense though)

I don't think you can ' replace ' Gerrard, as such. I mean you are talking about an absolute monster of a player, so diverse and so effective on many fronts. Trying to get someone in to be the Gerrard of the team, or play the Gerrard role may well do nothing but harm to the team. He is a once in a generation player, and trying to get someone to be him will be stupid. Someone coming in to fill his shoes will have to be one hell of a player.

Why bother with so much competition?

This. If he wants to actually play then he should at least consider alternatives to Real Madrid. That goes for any other promising younger player too. Only 10 spots on that pitch and quite a few are already occupied by some of the best in the world.

We've got Meireles who's quite similar, we've got Shelvey and we've got Coady. If the latter two don't work out we can always bring someone in but it's not a priority this summer.

We need to replace the sub par players first:
N'gog, Jovanovic, Cole, Maxi, Poulsen, Konchesky, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, El Zhar, Degen, Insua, Jones, Darby.

That's before making a decision on reserve players like:
Darby, Amoo, Eccelstone, Ayala, Mendy, Ince, Mavinga, Pacheco, Bruna, Cooper, Saric, Bouzanis, Sokolik, Kolhert & Roberts.

For instance look at our CB's:
Wilson, Wisdom, Ayala, Mavinga, Mendy, Sokolik, Regan, Sama, McGivern

That's nine CB's looking to play in two reserve spots. Granted one or two might go on loan and Wilson might not play much due to first team commitments but still it's far too many. That nine should probably be only four or five maximum.

Anybody outside of Germany familar with Marco Reus? The Youtube videos dont do him justice. He's brilliant with the ball. Not that many trickery, but driving towards the goal everytime he can, 21 years old. He has 6 goals and 8 assists so far this season, as a winger. He's really intelligent. Plus he would be available for a decent fee for his talent. His team will play 2nd division next season. He'll play in the national team soon. Snap him up or Bayern will do it. Doubt Kenny or Comolli are watching Bundesliga :/ some very good young (German) talents on the verge.

I know Youtube can make any player look good, Voronin for example, but I like what I saw there. I'll have to take a gander at Monchengladbach in the future. I would still prefer the other Marko though.

Sorry to come across sounding like a right c*nt, but "do you really think Sahin would have a 6m buyout clause in his contract?" would probably be a better question to ask.

Why sell Aurelio? He can pretty much stay on the squad. When he's fit, he can play really good, like on monday.

And between Dzsudzsak and Young, I think people would rather have Dzsudzsak. Young will be a lot worse without Downing playing with him in my opinion.

Deleted my post, as I read it back and realised just how much I hate this FM-type bollocks.

Why sell Aurelio? He can pretty much stay on the squad. When he's fit, he can play really good, like on monday.

Aurelio is over 30 and still hardly succeeds in playing more than a handful of games for us. Even this year, when we've been forced to play Glen Johnson LB for most of the season. If we buy a reliable player for that position and Jack Robinson's development brings him into the senior squad like Flanaghan, I'd let him go. Even Rafa didn't give him a new contract, it was Hodgson that brought him back.

And between Dzsudzsak and Young, I think people would rather have Dzsudzsak. Young will be a lot worse without Downing playing with him in my opinion.

I think Dzsudzsak is a good player don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's gonna happen. The links so far have been tenuous.

I also disagree about the Downing point. I think Young's career has actually suffered a lot from Villa signing Stewart Downing. When Young was tearing up the league it was as an attacking player from the left side. Then they bought Downing who, while I believe is overall a less talented player, plays an orthodox left winger position better than Ashley Young does.

This has resulted in Young being pushed into the centre at Villa, they play him on the hole as they generally have Abrighton on the other flank too. And Young hasn't looked the same player since they started him playing through the middle. Coming to Liverpool and going back to the left could be a chance to revive his stalling career.

If Real are after him we have virtually no chance of attracting him to join us. In fairness, at the moment would you join Real, stay at Dortmund or take a risk and join us if you had the choice?

That depends. Can they guarantee him a starting job? I don't see how they could. With us the likelihood of that is much greater.

Or more realistically, he could stay at Dortmund where he is settled and try and win the Champions League as well as (most likely) defend the Bundesliga title next season. I want us to get Sahin too but there really isn't much reason for him to move and if he wanted to move, choosing us would be unlikely and sadly a step back for him as we don't offer him immediate Champions League as Dortmund will do next season. Dortmund are a team on the up and they have a good young squad that will peak within the next few years, we have nothing close to that right now but heopfully FSG can show some ambition in the Summer and then maybe at the end of next season we can start talking big transfers; the Sanchez's,Hazard's,Sahin's etc.

Right now I wouldn't be unhappy with Young, Adam etc. as we don't have the calibre of squad players needed to win the PL so this summer will be our building block where we can get good players but I'm not going to aim too high yet, we need to stay realistic and not too optimistic.
Keep it simple.
