Peter McDonnell in 1977?  Another reserve goalkeeper.
Correct. Rhian Brewster came close to joining them, but spoiled it by playing in the FA Cup and Community Shield. Pretty sure he’ll end his career having won the Champions League without ever playing in it.

Out of all the footballers who've ever played in England by number of league goals in the whole history, there's one player in the top 10 who isn't English, who is it?

Aldo, as he is obviously scouse, not English.

As I've said before, the Full English is just the base upon which the Scots/Welsh/NI have improved upon. Sorry but the Full English is the worst of the British breakfasts.

Would have got both them but was beaten to it

Fairly sure at the time we won the european cup in 2019, Kelleher had not yet made his debut. Mignolet was still around so he was the back up that season.

I am in a facebook group that conduct private signings with Liverpool players, they have been trying for years to get Peter McDonnell and he has no interest at all, one story that does the rounds in his European cup medal was stolen after the game.

Is it top flight only?

The only Liverpool player I can think of would be Rushy but I'm sure I remember an old stat that Liverpool don't have anybody anywhere near the top of the all-time scorers lists.  They're dominated by Jimmy Greaves and loads of pre-war players, and we weren't a force in that era.

Outside of Liverpool the best I can think of is Denis Law.

The answer is John Aldridge, who is definitely English (Excluding the Scouse not English bit) :D

In League football, Sixth all time.
Thanks.  I think if it's top-flight only then that Scotsman Hughie Gallacher in 12th is the answer.

I wasn't far off with Denis Law - joint 95th  :o.  Wazza Rooney is not even in the top 100.

Some cracking modern day journeymen names on that list; Jamie Cureton (30th), Kevin Phillips (44th), Billy Sharp (46th) and Jordan Rhodes (88th).  Brian Clough "ratioing" them all with 0.92 goals in each appearance.

In the build-up to the final, here is a League Cup-themed quiz. There are 16 players who have scored for the Reds in the League Cup, but never scored for us in the league. The timeframe is 1981-2020, but most have been in the last 20 years. Can Rawk get them all before kick-off on Sunday?

Leyton Maxwell!
Erik Meijer

Both scored against Hull over 2 legs in 99/00 I think. I’ll wait for a few others to have a go before adding any more.

Sergi Canos, Luis Alberto, and Tiago Ilori?  Maybe they scored in a League Cup romp in the earlier Klopp years?

I was going to say him for his second spell, scored against Hull. Not sure if the first spell would cancel out the second, if he did score a league goal.
